I have about exhausted what I can find of Vincent (Wincenty) Gryczan/Gryczanoski (b. 1884, Kurejwa, Lomza, Poland; d. 1940 Grand Rapids, Kent, MI; father, Alexander; mother Anna Groncka) in this country and need to begin delving into Polish records.

Sooo... first, any Gryczan seekers out there? Second, if I am reading this right, the church contact would be for Trójcy Przenajs~wie~tszej?

My Polish is weak but I am learning and I am more than willing to learn. Any guidance would be appreciated. TIA.

Hello, i am doing my family search on Ciuzicki, which only recently did i find out the original spelling of our last name was czyzyk. My great grandfather Konstanty married Victoria Jaskowska around 1896. They lived near Bialystok area - and came to America when Russia invaded. Doing a map search, i found the city with the same name! I know Konstanty came to America through a nephew - last name Filipkowski- and they lived in Erie, Pennsylvania. Konstanty and Victoria lived on a farm- they had 10 children, 5 who died in Poland, but Dominic and Mary came to America with them.
Looking for any information on ancestors of that name or any information on that city.
Thank You

This is the most current list of ancestors' surnames, which I am researching in the old province of Suwalskie. They are found in the parishes of Filpowo, Bakalarzewo, Jeleniewo, Przerosl, Suwalki and Wizajny. Some of them are 3rd, 4th and 5th grandparents' surnames. The earliest year one was born is about 1733 (Marianna Waskiewicz / Waszkiewicz). Several are in the 1700's, based on ages given in marriage and death records.

If anyone is researching any of these surnames, please contact me. I have been saving documents on those who I have not been able to connect with my family. I may have something, which may be helpful to you.

These are the surnames and the villages, towns and cities where they have lived:

BORKOWSKI - Jalowo, Szurpily

DOROCHOWICZ - Jeleniewo, Wolownia, Zywa Woda, Suwalki

GALAZIN / GALAZYN - Kazimierowka, Przejma Mala, Szurpily

KARASZEWSKI - Czerwone Bagno

KULIK - Czerwone Bagno

MACKIEWICZ - Szurpily, Jalowo, Kruszki, Suwalki

OLOWNIUK _ Szurpily

PRZEMIELEWSKI - Filipow, Garbas, Wizajny, Suwalki

SIEJWA / SZEJWA - Szurpily

SZESZKO - Czerwone Bagno, Szurpily

SZWARC - Filipow, Suwalki, Garbas, Wizajny

WASZKIEWICZ - WASZKIEWICZ - Jeleniewo

ZABOROWSKI - Czerwone Bagno

Tina Ellis

Searching for information about Alpert and Rosenberg families from the Lomza/Piatnica area of Poland. Ida (Chaie) Rosenberg appeared at Ellis Island in 1901 with her 3 children (Mariem, Hillel, Sore) from Piatnica; her destination was her husband Max (or possibly Mortcha) Rosenberg. Ida's death certificate states her father was Eli Alpert from Russia. I have not had any success searching in the JewishGen data for any Lomza records, and I would love to learn more about ancestors from these families. Thanks for any help.

Also, his DECLARATION of INTENTION of becoming a US citizen says "GRONDY, POLAND"... I can find no "GRONDY" but do see "GRADY" near both LOMZA and NOWOGROD.
Does anyone know if any records exist for this area? ANY information would be SO APPRECIATED

Searching for anyone Korzeniecki from the area of Lopuchowo/Sejny. My grandfather Anton was born there in 1893 to parents Feliks and Dominika Mary (Paszkiewicz) Korzeniecki.

My grandfather altered his name to Kozeniecki. His brother used the spelling Kozenecki. Anton, his brother Vince and his sister Mary all settled in Milwaukee, WI. Vince came in 1902, Anton and Mary in 1912.

I believe we had Korzeniecki relatives on the east coast. I have a Christmas card mailed Dec. 25, 1939 from Jozef Korzeniecki in Elizabeth, New Jersey. I also have a 1932 letter mailed from Sejny from K. Korzeniecka.

Any help appreciated.

Lisowski family of Sokolka

Dear All, I am looking for the family of Stanley Lisowski, son of Felix and Rosaria of Sokolka, Poland. Stanley's WW1 record states he was born there. He had a brother Martin and a sister Michelina. I believe he immigrated to the States sometime around 1910 - 1914.

I would also be interested to know if there is a Catholic Church in that area and if it is the same as in the early 1900's. Could you provide a name and address and your opinion on writing for old church records.

Any help you can give me will be very much appreciated.

Marilyn Barnes

I am attempting to get information on the Kowaleski branch of our family. Aleksandra Garbera B:about 1891 from Mochnaczka Nizna,Nowy Sacz, Galicia (Lemkoland) married Stefan Kowaleski B: 1889 from about the same area. They immigrated to Pennsylvania independently in 1910 and 1912. After moving a couple of times, they settled on a farm in Uniondale in Lackawanna County. Children : Mary, Eva, Justina, Peter, Anna, Helen. This family did not leave a great paper trail. Does anyone know anything about this family, or any possible living relatives?

Where can I find Catholic church records for Dąbrowa Białostocka, late 19th century?

Hello,

I've looked for the answer in the Family History Center library catalog, but nothing seems the obvious answer and I was hoping someone might be able to save me a bit of time looking through microfilm for the wrong place.

Given a variety of sources, I'm quite certain that before coming to the US (Cleveland to be exact) my great grandmother (birth name Amelia Wałęciej, Anglicized most often as Walenciej, but I've seen quite a number of other spellings; daughter of Frances Wałęciej and Anna Dziel[o/a]k) and her siblings were born in Dąbrowa Białostoka, northeast of Białystok, near the modern day border with Belarus. She would have been born sometime in the 1890s (1894 listed on some records, but I don't believe she knew her date of birth). What I'd like to find is a record of her batism (she was Roman Catholic), which would hopefully lead me to the names of her grandparents (which are unknown to me at the present).

Searching through the FHL catalog for Place="Dąbrowa Białystok" yields no Roman Catholic microfilms, which leads me to believe that the records I'm looking for might be on the films for a nearby town. But which one?! Anybody have any ideas/pointers?

Thanks much,
--steve

Kisla Family in Dolistow , Bialystok

Dolistow is listed on the ship manifest as my grandfather's home town when he immigrated to Chicago in 1900. Have also found this town listed as home for another Kisla who immigrated to NY later. We had always been told this is in Bialystok and I did find reference to Dolistow parish in Bialystok. Is this an existing town?

Also, the name Kisla seems unusual. I am wondering if it could have Turkish origins. I am aware that the word means bitter or sour in some Slavic languages.

Does anyone have any information ? Thanks.

Hello there,

I'm looking for my family named Jazwinski/Jazwinska who lived in
Lomza in Podlasie (originally they came from Nur, Mazowieckie).
What I know about them so far is that my greatgrandmother was
named Elzbieta Jazwinska (born around 1884 in Nur I think) and her
father's name was Piotr Jazwinski.

I know that her family was from Nur and moved to Lomza, I don't
know exactly when, I'm afraid. I've been told Elzbieta's older brother
Jan Jazwinski moved to Lomza first, where he had a pharmacy and
that he later brought his sister there, as he knew a widower who
wanted to get married again. The widower's name was Jan
Kotnarowski. I know Elzbieta and Jan had a son called Wlodzimierz
(my grandad) in 1913.

Does anyone know anything about them?

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Celina

WÄ…sosz

gm. WÄ…sosz, pow. grajewski, woj. podlaskie

I am interested in the Roman Catholic Parish in Wasosz that my Great Grand Father Andrzej Renkiewicz and Grand Father Jan Renkiewicz could have worshiped in around 1849 - 1887. Below is the address for this Parish. I recently have been given information that suggests that my relatives all worshiped here in the RC Church in Wasosz as they lived in Zebry. The information I received gives the name of Romuald Milewski who is the Parish organist and keeper of the books or records. I have a few contacts in Poland that are trying to correspond with Mr. Milewski in attempting to locate birth transcriptions from the Parish Ledgers on my Renkiewicz/Rynkiewicz and Chmielewski/Chmielewska and Merchelski/Merchelska relatives. If anyone is trying as I am to find relatives from this NE part of Poland and can suggest other alternatives to me in obtaining birth, baptismal, marriage and or death certificates, I would appreciate an email with your suggestions and or recommendations.

I have also requested the fiche from the LDS for births from Wasos and Zebry from 1849-1863 which is entirely written in Polish and I have viewed a portion of this film which reveals the surname CHMIELEWSKI/CHMEILEWSKA births in varying years. I am awaiting the help of an interperter who will better assist me in translating the Polish to English notations. This venture could reveal who my GGM Marianna Chmielewska's parents where and possibly when she and they were born?

The children of Andrzej & Marianna (Chmielewska) Renkiewicz are:

Antoni b. 15 Oct 1881 in Zebry
Jan b. 9 Nov 1884
Anna b. 20 Aug 1887

After my GGF Andrzej died my GGM Marianna married a 2nd time to a man named Andrea Merchelski. They had three more sons who were:

Telesfor -the oldest
Józef - who married Bronisława Sierbińska and they had 6 children:
1.) Maria (deceased)
2.) Bolesław (deceased)
3.) Bronisław - Halina`s 1st husband (deceased)
4.) Czesław (deceased)
5.) Sabin - Halin's 2nd husband (deceased)
6.) Józef lives in harbour Swinoujście (Near Szczecin) on the seashore of the North Sea.

Bolesław, who emigrated to United States. on 7 Sep 1907.

All assistance and help are graciously accepted and warmly received.

Regards,

John J.
Hello,

i'm fairly new to this research, barely a month. can anyone tell me the best way to obtain information &/or documentation from the 1880's 1890's in the town of Bielsk or as it's called now Bielsk Podlaski - birth records, death records or marriage?

i don't speak Polish & church records would be of no use to me, since the family i'm researching is Jewish. I'm not even sure if there are any Jewish records left in Poland.

specifically, i'm goping to find information on my g-grandmother Rebecca Vigdor/Wigdor, Victorvitch b. 1877, her half brother Abraham Rosenblum or Rosenbloom b. 1894 & 5 other sisters, with no birth dates & their mother, my gg-grandmother Basha Vigdor/Wigdor, or Victorvitch or Rosenblum/Rosenbloom.

i am terribly overwhelmed by the fact that my ancesors took terribly inpercise records (if any) & kept changing their names.

any & all help would be greatly appreicated.

~~~ laura
(Chmielewski)/Rynkiewicz/Merchelska, Mary from Zebry, Poland
I have recently contacted a step-cousin of mine living in NE Poland today who is a descendant of my Great Grand Parents Andrzej and Mary (Chmielewska) Rynkiewicz/Merchelski.  They were from Zebry, Poland. They had the following children, Antoni b. 15 Oct 1881, Jan b. 9 Nov 1884, Anna (Ciecierska) Rynkiewicz.  Andrzej apparently died and his wife remarried a Andrzej Merchelski. With this 2nd husband she had three sons, Boles³aw , Josef and Bronis³aw Merchelski.  I don't know when my GGP's were born but the possibility exists that they are buried at W¡sosz cemetery.  Boleslaw Merchelski emigrated age 18, b. 27 Aug 1887 in powiat Szczuczyn Lomza Province to the U.S. on 7 Sep 1907. In the 1920 census he was living with his step-brother Antoni Rynkiewicz and his wife Franciska Eureka (Zarzecka) Rynkiewicz at 221 East Noble St. in Nanticoke, PA.
I have recently received information telling me that I have relatives in the following area of NE Poland:
gmina W±sosz,
powiat Grajewo
Poland.
I would like to know if anyone could help me in contacting or finding out where and who to write concerning the W¡sosz cemetery?
Thanking you in advance for any and all help.
Regards,
John J. Rynkiewicz (The Grandson) JJRynk@hotmail.com
To those who used a researcher in Poland; Advice needed
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has used the company "Geneatranslat" for researching Polish records? Their web site is:
http://www.geneatranslat.com.pl/eng/home_eng.html
I sent in an initial request with what information I have and what information I am hoping to find. I am looking for basically anything (birth, marriage, death records, etc.) in the Suwalki region for a Bronislaw Jaglowski and an Alexandra Jaglowska (Kabinska) who came to the US in 1913 and 1915 respectfully and settled in Luzerne County. I received the following reply. I am wondering if those of you who have used researchers in Poland find these prices in line, too much, or a good deal. Obviously, it is less expensive than going there and doing it myself. I look forward to your responses.
Thanks,
Tom
++++++++++++++ Start email from Polish researcher +++++++++++++++++
Dear Thomas
My name is Xxxxxx Xxxxxx and as you have been advised I will be in charge of a possible research for you. First of all I would like to apology for a delay in my responding to your inquiry.
I would like to present the financial aspects of the possible research.
Our hourly fee is 35 EUR (paid by wiring). It covers our working time. All expenses like fees of registry offices, archives, parish and postal fees, phone, fax, costs of sworn translations (if such are necessary) and others are payable separately.
Once a client has decided to have researched by ourselves we require a retainer of 400.00 EUR which is to cover 10 initial research hours (350 EUR) and initial costs (50 EUR). The retainer is not refundable even if the initial costs and hours altogether would not reach the amount of 400.00 EUR. After those 10 hours we will provide a report stating what the status is, what further research possibilities are worth to be considered, what further costs may be involved, etc.
I think it would be enough at this stage. Should our terms find your acceptance, we could discuss further details, then. Should you have any additional questions, feel free to ask.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx
Researcher
A researcher found for me some records (in Russian) from The Holy Trinity Church in Grajewo (Catholic).  Along with baptisms of family members, he found godparents' names, none of which I am researching but all of which I thought I would share with you (including family member names).  Grajewo is in the northeastern quadrant of Poland, just southeast of the larger town of Elk.  These are the names found in the registers: Bobrowska, Borawska, Borkowska, Budny, Dawidowska, Godlewski, Gorska, Gutowski, Grzybowski, Karwowski(a), Kielczewski, Krukowski(a), Kuzmin~ski, Lapszys, Lepkowska, Lowczykowski, Mabinski, Myszler, Niebrzydowski(a), Niedzwiecki(a), Nietupska, Plociczek, Poniatowska, Rutkowski, Sienkiewiczo~wna, Sliwinksa, Sobecka, Surawski, Szczawinska, Wolbarkowa, Zagorski(a), Ziotkowski, and Zyskowski.  If you are researching these, let me know and I can at least give you date and location.
Dzien dobry,
Does anyone here know of people named Jarzabski in Poland?  I am a student who is traveling to Poland this summer and have been curious about my Polish roots (my family immigrated to the U.S.A. in the early 1900's) and would like to meet family while on my trip.  If you know of any resources I can use to find where any Jarzabski's may live (I know they are in Poland, I just don't know where to begin, though I have some evidence that they are in Suwalki in the Podlaskie region) or if you know someone, please let me know.  Thank you!
-Jenny Jarzabski
My Great Grandmother was born according to my Grandmother's records, May 24, 1884 as Bernice in Sczuzyn to Josephine Czarnecki.  Since my Great-Grandmother's father passed away, Josephine remarried a Czarnecki and has a 1/2 brother Bruno Czarnecki and 1/2 sister Elsie Czarnecki.  Bernice married Frank Osowski in Feb, 1908 and had my Great Uncle Henry Osowski in either 1909 or 1910 before coming to the US.  In Chicago, IL she had twin girls.  My grandmother, Irene Kubert (nee Osowski) and Regina Jansen (nee Osowski)(2nd marriage).  I'm looking for my original Great-Great Grandfather's name and Step Great-Great Grandfather's name, plus what ship they came to the US on.  I have not found them on any ship manifests.  Any information or links or direction would be greatly appreciated.
84,000 Blessings,
Deanna Kruger
Finding records in Poland
I obtained the 1826-1870 Grajewo parish birth records from the FHL. The good news is that the time period included the birth of my wife's great grandfather... and, it being the nature of such things, I was able to find age of 2nd great grandfather, his wife and births of all of their children and some other details. Wonderful.
Now I need some advice from more experienced. I would like to go both forward and back... to get birth info of the 2nd great grandfather, I need to get 1823 or so. In order to get the grandfather's birth, I need to get to 1884. In both cases, I'd love to get wider range to document family units.
I'd also really like to get at marriages and deaths. I should mention that this has been easy because we knew the parish and the surname is rare (Gryczan). As far as I can tell, I've got all that the FHL has for Grajewo parish.
What is a reasonable plan of attack from here? Write for records? Hire Polish researcher? Travel to Poland (our Polish is not really at a level yet that would make that as productive as it will be in a year or two. We ARE studying.)
Thoughts?
TIA
Paul (aka Pawel)
Hello!  I was wondering if any one has any information on the Piontek (Piantek, Pia~tek) surname from Dobry Las, Poland.  I believe Dobry Las to be in the Lomza province.  My great-grandfather, Joseph, emigrated to the New Haven, CT area in the late 1800s.  Any info on Piontek or Dobry Las would be so helpful.  Thanks!
My mother Franceska Cituk arrived ellis Dec 1912. passenger manifest shows residence as Bogaty or Bogatycze or Bogatizce, Suwalki. Father  Jan or John Zaniewski family was from Perstun and Sopockin, Suwalki which are now in Belarus. I cannot find Bogaty etc. anywhere in what is now Podlaskie. Perhaps the village name is spelled differently or no longer exists. Have been thru shetl seeker and many map sites. Some possibles but nothing that close. Does anyonr out there know of these villages or these surnames? Many thanks.
Joan Z.
