Hello everybody,

I'm Polish, currently living in the UK.
My grandmother's maiden name was Piascik and she came from Dobrylas near Nowogrod. Her parents: Aleksandra Deptula and Zygmunt Piascik met and married in the US but came back to Poland (probably in 1919). Their oldest son - Joseph Piascik was born in the US, but came back to Poland with his mother when he was little. He then emigrated back to the US (unfortunately I don't know where to) boarding onto the last ship for America before the IIWW. I have images of Zygmunt, his siblings Alexander and Justyna Piascik (who stayed in the US I think) and other members of the family (including Zygmunt's parents Joseph and ).
My parents live on a farm in Poland, less than 20km from Dobrylas which I'm planning to visit in September - I hope to find more images and record more family stories then. I have just started my research into the family history and would welcome emails and help from other descendants of Piascik family from Dobrylas. I can offer the same.
Btw: Piascik might mean sand (or 'little sand' actually) as suggested by somebody but it might as well be a dimunitive form of Piast, a name of a Polish king dynasty - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piast

We were in Dobrylas last month. Be sure to stop at the Skansen in Nowogrod. It is an outdoor museum of Green Kurpie culture and structures. The mill was moved from Dobrylas and was owned by the one of the Piascik families from Dobrylas (there are several different Piascik families). I am related to one of the Piascik families in Cleveland (my grandmother's sister married Wladyslaw Piascik from Dobrylas who came to the US in 1905. His parents were Stanley and Sophie (Bogdanska). We have two Piascik families here in Cleveland, Ohio from the Kurpie region. I know there are more in New England. I have photos of a number of the graves in Dobrylas. I can email the Piascik ones to you. We had a great time visiting the villages and towns in this region.

Hi,
I noticed you said you have photos of a number of graves from Dobrylas. Do you have any Dymeks???? Or Burzynska or Zemanska? Antoni and Malgorzata are my g,g,grandparents.... I'm dying to see their headstone! There were children of theirs buried there as well. Any photos would be greatly appreciated, I'm giddy just with the thought!
Thanks,
Tori

Hello Tori,
I went through my photos and did find one of the grave of Jan Dymek who was 19 and died in 1968. There is a photo medallion of him on the grave. There is also at the same grave a Leon and Leokadia Dymkow_. I can't quite make out the last letter. It is a quite nice grave and when we were there in July of 2008 decorated with votives and flowers meaning that there was someone taking care of it. My photos are mainly of Piascik, Pianka, and Plona graves but I have a few others. I do not know how to email photos through the message board but will be glad to email them. I found out that my gr grandmother Wladyslawa Zelewska was buried in Zbojna although she died in Dobrylas.
Best regards, Ray

Thanks Ray. My Dymeks are older than that. I'm looking for early century. I wonder who Jan belongs to...probably a relative....oooh, the possibilities!! Exciting. My gggreat grandmother is a Piascik! Marianna Piascik b. 1799 in Dobrylas. We're probably connected! I'd love to find my great grandfather Antoni Dymek's tombstone, he was born 1839 in Dobrylas. Or his children's: Henry, Stanislaw, Jozef d 1865 aged 2, Katarzyna, don't know how many others stayed there. All the others came to America. I hope their stones are still there. Do you have photos of the cemetery in general? Like a distant photo? I'd love to see it. You can e-mail me directly at Tori1967@comcast.net I would be so grateful. Anything Dobrylas, EVERYTHING Dobrylas means so much to me. LOL, I'm a little crazy over my Polish heritage and homeland. Dobrylas, Grady and Nowogrod are an addiction to me at present.
Thanks for everything, I hope to find a cousin connection with our Piasciks!
Talk soon,
Tori
