Does anyone know where to write for vital records in Lesko, Poland? Does anyone know of online phone directories for families in Lesko, Poland? Has there ever been yearly census done in Lesko, Poland? I'm looking for information from late 1800's - 1920' on the Zakrzewski family. I found records that Lesko, Poland was Lisko. Thank you.

Hi all,

I've been searching for information on my grandpa's side for sometime now and have hit a wall. My grandpa, Adam Bednarz was born in Stany, around 1896 and came to America around 1912 with his borther Joseph. Joseph then left and went to Canada. My grandpa did not leave much of a paper trail, and never talked much about his family back in Poland. I know he left a few brothers and sisters back there. One of the brothers was in the Polish army during WWI.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had a connection or if anybody could give me guidance on how to obtain church records from Stany.

Thanks,
Joelyn Pullano

Eastern Galicia (southeastern Poland) --Drohobycz/Drohobych

My grandfather is Leo Lech born in 1925 in Poland. His hometown is Drohobycz, Poland, in the land known as Eastern Galicia. Now it is in the Ukraine.

Leo's mother died and so he had a stepmother. He was an only child. Leo's father was in the Austrian army (the occupiers of Poland before WWII). Leo immigrated to Germany for work during World War II sometime, married Anna Czipak, and they came to America between 1945-1950. They have resided in Hammond, Indiana southeast of Chicago since coming to America.

Anna was from the same general area that Leo was from, but a much smaller town. Anna and Leo met in Western Germany (around Mannheim or Heidelberg). I believe she did have at least two sisters whom she could not find after WWII.

Any information or tips for researching Galicia, eastern Poland, or anything at all would be much appreciated!

Is there a source in Poland to inquire about 19th century records/documents on births, marriages and deaths (other than the information from JewishGen). I've hit a brick wall regarding ancestors from that area. My great-great grandfather was Yuda Schupler and his wife was Riwe Schneider. I am looking for their parents and their children.

Ellis Island on Jun 23, 1912 aboard	Kaiserin Auguste Victoria out of Hamburg, & moved to Pittsburgh, PA.

Her parents were Hoyc Maczyta & Katarina Kryl.

She may have had an uncle Ivan Maczyta from nearby Tworylne, which I understand was burned to the ground in 1946.

I haven't the foggiest idea how to trace her family in Czarna.

My great grandparents came to the US around 1909 from Sonina, Galicia. Manifest records state they were married before coming to the US, though they did not come over together. Does anyone have an idea how to find any of the records (birth, baptism, marriage, land, school- anything) from Sonina? I looked at the LDS Familysearch catalog and the only thing listed for Lancut is records of military families. I doubt this applies to my relatives. Their names were Audrzy (Andy) and Julia Danilak Witowski.

Marianna Krawczyk, my grandmother, had two sisters, Broncia and Helen, and two brothers, Joseph and John. Nieces Stanislawa Malek (Gauszowice, Rzeszow) and Wladyslawa Dzialowska used to correspond with my mother, Matylda. Marianna left Poland c.1903 when she was 16 yrs old; married Andrew Krawczyk (maiden name same as married name)and settled in New Jersey, USA. Joseph and John served in the war (WWI?) and Marianna never heard from them again even though she knew they survived. Would love to connect with relatives.

Wawrzkiewicz family in Lancut

Hi. I was wondering if anyone might have information on the Wawrzkiewicz family from Lancut. They were carriage wheel makers, which connects them to the castle/museum, but have not been able to verify. I am also looking for any maps that might show residences. I believe that I have found my family in a book published by a local resident, but he is only available via mail and does not speak english. Martin Wawrzkiewicz and Marianna Kochman were the parents of Franciszek Wawrzkiewicz. Franciszek came to America in 1905.

Translation Help

I was recently given a Western Union Telegram dated 1938 that was sent to a relative from Poland. I have been told that it is written in Polish, and wondered if someone would be able to help me translate this. I have gone on a Polish/English Dictionary Web Site, and quite a few of the words come up with "no translation." The following is the
wording:

Jestem smiertelnie chora leczenie konieczne prosimy pmmoc pieniezna=

Antonia goscilo potwierdzam prawdziwosc wyzej wymienionej chroby doktor szwarc lekarz rejonowy.

The only words I found are doktor - doctor, and one for treatment or cure. Could this be a telegram notifying someone of an illness? My aunt thought one word might be money. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Need a Genealogists in Krosno area

I am trying to find the grave of my maternal grandmother or a record of her death. Her married name was Marianna Lukaczynska and she died in Poland in the 1920's and I assume was buried somewhere in or near Krosno. Her parents came from Tloki which is just SE of Krosno. She married Jozef Lukaczynski in Krosno but he died in America. They had three children before he emigrated of which my mother, Honorata, was the youngest. My mother came to the US in the 1920's but her brother and sister remained in Poland. I have visited the Old and New Cemeteries in Krosno looking for my grandmother's grave with no success. Their records for that period are not comeplete. She may have lived in Jaslo for a time.

I wish to retain the services of a genealogist in the Krosno area who can find her death records and her grave, if it still exists. I speak and understand a limited amount of the Polish language and plan to visit Krosno this summer.

I have more detailed information about Marianna and her husband.

Thank you.

Joseph Beben
Carson City, Nevada, USA
joebeben@gmail.com
775-315-1163

Pilch family

My family is from Zagorze Podkarpackie, near Manasterz, and that is not far from Przeworsk, in the county and diocese of Przymysl. A visit to the cemetery in Manasterz in 1999 or 2000 resulted in my finding the tombstone of my grandfather's sister, Wiktoria Pilch Potoczna.

I had difficulty finding any related Pilch's in the village. This past December, 2003, I decided to try tracking down his sister's family and had success. The youngest of her six children, Stasiu Potoczny, joined the Franciscan Order (took the name of Serafin) and died and was buried in Przeworsk. I went to the Friary there and found a priest who knew him personally. He also had an address book in which my cousin's mother's name appeared three time with the same address in Rzeszow. I visited my cousin's grave.

So if you have among your immediate ancestors any one who was a member of a religious community, you might try searching there. It has paid off for me after five years of on-the-spot searching as well as letters to the government agencies whose response is usually that all records prerished in the war.

My cousin's (Serafin Stasiu Potoczny OFM) sister married a man named Kielar, who was in the fire department in Rzeszow. The old priest in the Friary also gave me the name of the pastor of the parish in which Mrs. Kielar and her family lived. I don't know whether she is still alive, nor whether her children still live in the area.

Sometimes relatives don't want to be found, and that is fine with me. But at least I know for certain that I still have relatives in Poland.

Good luck!

John Pilch

Hi Everyone,

I'm researching my Rzeszut roots.

Ellis Island manifests show my people coming over to NYC in 1907 and 1909 from Dabrowica. Upon arrival they immediately settled in Glastonbury, CT.

Later documents I've found indicate Tarnobrzeg as the birthplace for some of the children.

Haven't had much luck figuring out which RC parish would have been the one these folks would have been a part of. I'm finding conflicting info. Can anyone suggest which Parish records I should look under at LDS to zero in on these people?

They were:

Kasper Rzeszut (b. approx 1871) - came to the US in 1907. His father's name was Adam.

His wife Anna Kopec Rzeszut (b. approx 1870) came over with their 5 kids in 1907. Kids names were Antoni, Franck, Julia, Michael and Josef.

Last name was eventually changed to Zesut.

Thanks for any assist.

EW
I am looking for others researching the surnames Okruch and Osga. My great grandfather, Andrew Okruch, was born in Rudka or Cieplice about 1892. His parents are Nicholas Okruh and Anna Osga. I have no info about them. Andrew arrived in America in July of 1908. He married in 1915 to Katheryn Piscor. They lived in Sheffield, Pennsylvania and had 8 children. My grandfather being the oldest.
Andrew had one sister that I have been able to document, Anastazya born 09 May 1886. She arrived in the States about 1909 or 1910. She married in 1910 to Michael Struk also from the same area in Podkarpackie. They lived in Detroit Michigan and had 4 children.
I believe Andrew and Anastazya had at least two other sisters and possibly one brother. If you are connected with this family, I would love to hear from you and share family info.

Help finding great uncle Joannes Nejbar/Neubar

I'm hoping to find a link to my great-uncle Joannes Nejbar (born about 1890 in Krosno to Josephius and Constantise Nejbar). He had immigrated to the United States in the early 1900's, resided in Toledo, OH, married, had five children, one of which died at the age of four in the United States. The other four are all girls who were placed in an orphanage in Toledo from 1929 to 1931, when they were returned to their father. From what my grandfather knows, Johannes (John/Jan) and his children returned to Poland after earning money in the United States and the entire family was "killed by the Nazi's". I am not sure if what my grandfather heard as a child is true or not. The family members I am searching for are Joannes, and his daughters, Caroline, Josephine, Helen and Stella. The girls were all born in Toledo, OH from 1920 to 1927. I would appreciate any help/ideas/leads on this family. Thank you for any potential help in advance!

Hello all,
I have been researching in the parish of Niwiska, near Kolbuszowa, for several years and would really like to "chat" with others who may have relatives from this area. Also looked at nearby villages such as Kossowy, Siedlanka, Przewrotne, and the Mielec area.
Many of these people immigrated and settled in Dupont, PA. and Detroit besides other places.
The surnames in my direct line are Warunek, Zadlo, Staron, Swider,Dziewit, Saj, Marc and Mazur, but am researching collateral lines as well. These surnames include Jemiola, Regula, Bialek, Boron, Cwanek, Cebula, Kasza, Kuna, Guzior, Majka, Preneta, Rakoczy, Turek, Opiela, Rydzy, Ploch and Pilat.
If any of this sounds familiar, I would love to hear from you even if just to say hello.

Family members still live in the area, but contacts are exteremely difficult.

My grandfather, Max Szegda, arrived in New York City on July 19, 1909 on the SS. His father's name was Daniel Szegda and mother's name was Euphrosina Gabricklis. Max had four brothers; Alex, Dmitro, Micklaj (Nicholaj) and Prokip.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any bit of info on Max's father/mother, brothers and subsequent families.

Thanks, in advance!

Myron Shegda

Wierchomla and Wola Michowa

I am researching my paternal ancestors' surname Tudaj or Tudai from the village of Wierchomla, and the surname Zrowka, Zoroka, or Soroka from the village of Wola Michowa (which is the village listed on my grandfather's immigration records but may be a serious misspelling of Myczkowce, in Podkarpackie). I am also looking for my maternal ancestors with the surname Trykitz or a name that sounds phoenetically similar (ancestral village unknown), and Krasowski or Krasowsky from the town of Citowjian (which is the spelling on my maternal grandfather's immigration records but it is a mystery to me what the name of the town may now be in Polish.) My paternal grandparents all immigrated from what was then Galicia and is now Malopolska area near Novi Sacz. My maternal grandparents may have been from the same area, or nearby, or they may have been from the region further east, perhaps as far east as what is now western Belarus. Most of my ancestors were of the Orthodox Christian religion, although the surname Trykitz may have originally been Jewish. Any leads anyone can provide to me will be appreciated.

My wife's mother, Catherine (Katarzyna) Petryszyn, along with her mother, Justina Petryszyn, and older sister, Mary Gemska, arrived in American in 1912. They resided for a short while in New York, and then settled in Ludlow, Mass. Justina's parents were Katarzyna Wyniarski and Jozef Krysku. We would appreciate hearing from anyone familiar these surnames, or with any information about their families in Poland.

Andrzej & Marya Malik -- Krosno, Poland & New Hampshire

My great grandparents were Andrzej (some documents show Jedzej or Jedrig) and Marya (a.k.a. Marianna, Mary or Maria). Andrzej was born abt. 1870 and Marya abt. 1873. They were married in about 1894 and immigrated in 1903 (Marya) and 1904 (Andrzej). Passenger lists appear to list their place of origin as "Krosno." They lived in Manchester, NH from then on, worked in the cotton mill, and died in 1937 (Marya) and 1947 (Andrzej). They had at least 8 children, for whom I have names, dates of birth, etc. I am interested in hearing from anyone who might be related and have further information, esp. dating back to before their immigration.

Thanks!
