My grandparents written records say their families are registered in Niwiska, Poland. I have the FHC microfilms and found literally hundreds of disconnected ancestors in these records. My question is, what is an effective way to contact the parish priest for records. I am willing to send $ upfront but only if I have the right parish. How should I approach this?
Also, how do I contact family members that might still be there? The family left in 1906. We tried the "go to the village" with my husband's family in Zawoja and while it was a wonderful day, it ended up being sort of a wild goose chase with no real results. The priest did find the record of the birth for me but that was it. Still, a treasure.
I'm going to these towns/villages in the spring and want to make the most of it! I'm going to go back over the entire microfilm again now that I have some new names and connections I made from the first time. I so wish the records for post 1870 were online or microfilm.
I listed the major players but I have many more names of ancestors!
