Surnames: Nowak, Chudriska, Cieslak, Gierlak
I have conducted a long and detailed search for my family members involved. Part of Jan Nowaks records are as follows
Jan Nowak's was born 16 June 1861 in Rawicz or Rawizt, Poland. Rawicz is a village, with the next town of Leszno, 40 miles away. Rawicz is 70 miles from Poznan and 50 miles from Wroclaw (Breslaw) and 100 miles from the German boarder. The area was under the rule of Frederick III Emperor of Germany. His parents were Ignatious Nowak and Franciska Chudriska?
Jan Nowak immigrated from Breman, Germany on 5th of March, 1887, and arrived in the U.S.,at the port of NY, on the 14th of March, 1887, on the vessel Kaiser Wilhelm. He then traveled to Duluth, Minn.,St Louis County.. He applied for his intention to become a U.S. citizen 27 Oct. 1890 at Duluth, Minn. District Court of St. Louis County, Minn. He reported his birth as 16 Jun 1861 in Rawitz, Germany. His future wife, Anastazya Cieslak, arrived from Poland in the year 1891.
John Nowak and Anastazya Cieslak may have applied for a marriage license in St. Louis County, MN. book F, page 142 dated June 14, 1891, with the names recorded as Nowak, John to wed Gierlak, Naetazzja. I believe Gierlak, Naetazzja is a transcription error of Cieslak, Anastazia. The St. Louis County Recorder P.O. Box 157 Duluth, Mn. 55801-01567 has the application on file. The actual marriage was not recorded in this place. It was also likely that Anastazia was expecting the couples first child at this time. The 1900 Federal Wisconsin Census of Milwaukee, Milwaukee states that their first born child, Maria was born in Minnesota. Later census records state her birth as Wisconsin. This childs birth record was recorded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mary was born Nov. 1, 1891 and her birth record was recorded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Other children followed: Ignacy on July 19, 1894 (it is believed he died as an infant--baptism St. Hedwig s on July 22, 1894, John Anthony on Aug. 1, 1896, Helen M. on Aug. 11, 1898, Eddie on Aug. 27, 1902, all in Milwaukee and Barbara Anne on Aug. 9, 1905 in Beaver, Marinette, Wisconsin. There is much more--but not important to this query.
Thank you
