Hello,

I was hoping that someone could help me with a history question regarding the village of Goslawice in Gmina Nieborow, Powait Lowicz. During the Russian occupation in the late 1800's to early 1900's was this area part of the Warsaw District? According to my g-grandfathers immigration papers it listed Goslawice, Warsaw as his last place of residence. I am trying to determine if this Goslawice is the same that is located in Gmina Neiborow.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi,

I am looking for information on Jan Sztabnik and his family. He emigrated from Russian Poland in 1913.

His wife's name was Eleonora, nee Bisiak or Brziak.

Eleonora Sztabnik and her daughter, Jadwiga emigrated to the United States in 1910.

I have located the family in the 1930 census, but an having difficulty in locating them in the 1920 census.

From the immigration records, I have learned that their last place of residence was Regnow, which is located in Lodz province, Rawa Mazowiecka county. Regnow was then located in what was known as Russian Poland, otherwise known as Congress Poland or the Kingdom of Poland.

Any information on the Sztabnik family would be greatly appreciated!

Laura Sztabnik

My grandfather is from Annoslaw Russia which is now part of Poland and I believe in or near the province of Lodz. I am wondering where I would start to obtain his birth records. I know his mother's name but not her maiden name and I know he had 2 brothers Phlip and David and 2 sisters Jennie and Annie. I do not know anything about his father, not even his name. Just that when the family left for the US his father was not with them. It is believed by my family that he had died before they left. My grandfather Samuel Rosen boarded the SS Livonia in June of 1907 from Libau (now Lativa) Russia to NY's Ellis Island. I do not know when his mother and siblings left, but I do know that they went to NY as well..

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Kwiecinski - ethnic Polish, born in Russia

I need help figuring out where to look for my grandparents.

My grandfather, Wladyslaw (William) Kwiecinski was born on 4 Apr 1887 in Russia though he was ethnically Polish. There is family lore that relates his family sleeping on the train platforms waiting for a train to flee Russia.

He married in Poland and had a family there. When his wife passed, he emigrated to the US with his youngest daughter Stasia. Probably about 1913.

In the US, he landed in Webster, Worcester, MA and first worked in the Samuel Slater Mill there. In 1917, he married Klara Bobala (born 1 Nov 1894 Austria, ethnic Polish, died 8 Feb 1963 Dudley, Worcester, MA). They owned a dairy farm in Dudley, MA and raised 8 additional children:
John 1918 (Jasiu)
Helen 1920
Katherine 1921
William 1922 (Wladyslaw)
Peter 1923
Victoria 1925
Stephen 1927 (Stefan)
Gladys 1929 (Wladyslawa)

After my grandmother died and the farm was sold, my grandfather returned to Poland to live with his "first" family. He died in Poland 16 Jan 1968.

My mother was not Polish and my grandparents did not speak much English at all. I am very much at loose ends.

SZUBERT, Miroslawa I. (1964)-2008

The Times, Trenton, New Jersey, Tuesday, January 22, 2008

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP - Miroslawa I. Szubert, 43, died Thursday at her home. Born in Pabianice, Poland, Mrs. Szubert came to the United States in 1992 and was a Trenton and Lawrenceville resident since. She worked with her husband locally in the home construction business. She and her family came to America to build a new life and start a new beginning. Miro was a fun-loving and easy going person making friends with many people. She also was a strong and independent woman who willingly helped others with their problems by offering practical advice in her caring manner as well as working alongside them to reach a successful resolution of the problem, whether it was offering rides, a place to stay or just a sympathetic ear to listen. Miroslawa will be terribly missed by her family and friends. Daughter of the late Ryszard Kodzis, she is survived by her loving husband Jerzy Mieczyslaw Szubert of Lawrenceville; her beloved daughter and son Marta Szubert and Piotr Szubert of Lawrenceville; her mother Wiktoria Hajbowicz Kodzis of Lask, Poland; her twin sister Yola and her husband Bogdan Nowosielski of Mississauga, Canada; sister and brother-in-law Donna and Wieslaw Jamrozinski of North Port, FL; three nephews, Adam and Robert Nowosielski and Kamil Jamrozinski; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins in Poland. The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Winowicz Funeral Chapel, 865 Brunswick Ave. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Hedwig's Church with the Rev. Leszek Tymoszuk presiding. Interment will be private for the family. Calling hour will be Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral chapel.
Paula Mantay married Alexander Otto (b. 1875 d. 1949).

The son, Gertraut Hermann Mantay married Vanda (Wanda) Gaul on 1902 in Lodz. At that time, both of his parents Wilhelm Mantaj and Justine (Grundmann) are listed as having died in 1891. Gertraut Hermann Mantay, his wife, and their son Herman Ergard Mantay came to the US in 1904. Does anyone have connections to Wilhelm and Justine?

My grandfathers US naturalization papers state he was born in Dombie (Dabie) Poland in 1886. I realize that there are, or were, many cites with that name. However, on his ships manifest, it lists his birth place as the country of Russia, town or city (can't make it out). It appears that the first three letters are ICH, then two unknown, middle letter L then two unknown with VIA at the end. Since there is a Dabie in the Lodz area, I am on this board. The name Drozen came up as his last permanent address. Anybody have an idea?

Understanding Lodz gen. research

Hello Lodz researchers,

I am having trouble understanding how to research in Lodz; maybe someone can be me some guidelines.

My german great-grandparents had migrated to Argentina from Poland in the 1910s/1920s. Their death certificates from Rosario, Argentina say they were born in Lodz, Poland. Now, do I assume that it's the city of Lodz, or could they simply be referring to the province of Lodz, or could it be the suburbs around Lodz. Also, I believe they were Lutherans, if that can whittle down their location.

These are their details:

great-grandparents:
- Wilhelm Teofil ARNHOLD, born 1877, Poland, died December 1962, Rosario, Argentina
- Marta JESKE (or YESKE), born August 1885, Lodz, Poland, died December 1970, Rosario, Argentina

Their parents:
- Ferdinand ARNHOLD
- Maria BAUER

- Gotlieb YESKE
- Augusta MONN

Your help is appreciated,

Paul Czerner

Warsaw from Radom and Marcus from Lodz

I am looking for any information on Samuel and Clara Warsaw. They lived in Radom and several of their children were born there. Samuel was born on 10 Jan 1870. He immigrated to Washington, D.C. in 1911.

My great grandmother, Cecelia married my great grandfather Henry Marcus. Henry was born in Lodze in 1883 and immigrated with his parents Roman and Sarah Marcus. They entered through New York. Sarah died in New York City in 1897 I believe and Roman worked as a clerk in Birmingham, AL. I do not know when Roman died, though I do have his immigration record.

They are Hebrew and the marriage between Henry and Lillia was arranged before they immigrated from Poland. They married after Henry got back from France in World War I. He was in the Navy Henry passed away 6 Dec 1957 in Silver Spring, MD.

Any info on these two family would be greatly appreciated.
