The Society for German Genealogy in Eastern Europe http://www.sggee.org serves Germans from Russian Poland which includes Lodz. Our database has over 400 Nikolai in it with 70 of them being from the Lodz district.

Steidel are much fewer in number but we have at least one birth registered at Trinity Lutheran in the city of Lodz back in 1835.
