Is this effort still active. My grandfather, Eduart Marxer ( married Paulina Kautzky) came from Mauren, Liechtenstein in l882. He is the great grandfather of Carl Paul Marxer referenced in a 2003 response from CPM's grandaughter. She would be my third cousin,My Dad, Lawrence Marxer was brother to Carl Marxer, her greatgrandfather, all of Des Moines, but I do not know her= would like to make connect. We have some genealogy back to about 1600. There is another source of Marxers who moved from Austria to France to America On the internet, the name Is BEAUMONT family history-very complete and interesting, but can find no connection where some of them may have dropped down into Liechtenstein. Michael W. Marxer

Dear Baroness Ludmila von Falz-Fein
I know I don't have the same name as you , but my grandpa told me the story of Falz-Fein and he said that we have relatives called Falz-Fein , he also said that someone came from the USA to search in our village for relatives called Falz-Fein.And then a strange story , my boyfriend ( his last name is Fein) has something that confirms that he and his family are descendants of Friedrich Falz-Fein.They have a old family tree , documents and a lot more that confirms that they're descendants of Falz-Fein.

Yours sincerely
Sianza Zink

Hi. I hadn't realized this was a thread that I had already posted on. I remember corresponding with Odette years ago.
I think the other posts on this thread may already have the info on Dominic Vogt born 1802. Dominic's parents were Christian Vogt and Mary Elizabeth Durr.

Dominic is my 2nd cousin 5 x removed. Not exactly close, but I brought back a FamlieBuch from Balzers when I visited there in 2005. Virtually everyone in the book was a 'cousin'. Its been a pet hobby see how many I can tie to those who immigrated especially to my home town of Dubuque in NE Iowa. That area was a huge draw for Liechtensteiner. Dominic's parents were Christian Vogt (1763-1842) and M Elisabeth Durr(prob Maria Eisabeth like her granddaughter)(1767-1840.

Our family has a similar story (although yours sounds much more realistic. This is how it goes:
Once there was a king of Liechtenstein who had four sons. The first son was to be the next king, the second son the head of church, and the third son was to be head of the navy. But there was no position for the fourth son so he decided to come to America.
My great-great- aunt Sis remembered getting a package from Liechtenstein every year filled with silk and finery that was of no use in rural north dakota. Once she called a bishop who said that if we were truly descended from a prince that would make all the females in our family princesses for all perpetuity.
I suppose if your story is true that makes you and all your female relatives on one side honorary princesses also.
I almost don't want to know if my story is true, I fear it may be false. But if you want to find out I believe a simple google search will work. There are many sites just listing out names of all royalty of certain places.

This site gives information on the compiled family histories available in individual Liechtenstein city archives, and the names included therein. The link above the shield is an email contact for the archivist for that city. "Is available most mornings" so it sounds like a part-time job. Or she may even be a volunteer. No clue on that. It may take some time to get a response, if we ever do, especially since we are writing in English instead of German. But it's worth a shot.

Linda

Thanks for the link! My husband's grandfather is Leo Schreiber, listed there. I had only seen a brief abstract on him from this book before. It is noted at the Liechtenstein site that he died in Detroit. The other details there match his ship manifest.

Is that reference to his death place actually in the book that much of this is derived from? If, instead, this was added as a note at the site, I need to talk to the person who added the death place. If it is actually in the book, please let me know. It may save me a large amount of time....

Advice more than welcome.

I have written the Shaan archivist, but it may take time before she can respond.

One more curious question.... My Schreiber's mother was Amalia geb. Jehle. The original query on this thread was about Quaderer, and his wife was Anna Maria Quaderer, geb. Jehle. The current archivist for Shaan is also named Jehle.... Is Jehle an extremely common surname around Shaan ??

LindaS
My name is Jessica Kleese. From what my family and relatives tell me, Kleese is German and we descend from there. It would be neat to find out who all I am related to, and if Kleese is somehow related to Klees. So far live gotten as far as James Gambal Kleese's parents Frederick Kleese and Anne Marie or Anna Marie Schmidt, I'm not sure of the spelling of her name. Other Kleese named relatives of mine are Lee Frederick Kleese, Gene David Kleese, Bryan Kleese, and Anthony Kleese.

I have a Caroline Frick born August 25, 1847 in Balzers Liechtenstein, died there on 04 May 1887. Married Joseph 'Anton' Kindle on 15 Nov 1875 in Mals, Liechtenstein.
They had 6 children of whom at least 2 immigrated to US. does this sound like your family? It is difficult to make assumptions that is the same based on a name & a birth date since Liechtensteiners tended to recyle the names frequently. Ellen

Quaderer/Quarderer - Lichtenstein to America

Looking fior information on 2 sisters, Elizabeth and Kathrina Quaderer/Quarderer who came to America about 1882.
Elizabeth was married to Joseph Allmann. I am trying to determine if they were married prior to her coming to America, did he come with her, and if there were any children. They were the daughters of Laurentius Quaderer and Anna Maria Jehle. Thanks.

Hi Sarah, this is a transcription error, someone has typed it as Leichtenstein, when it should read Leicestershire ! I have been researching this line of Gambles and I am pretty sure that Edmunds parents were William and Elizabeth Gamble, hope this helps, Vanessa.

Gambles from Liechtenstein

Hi - I have found that one of my ancestors, Emma Gamble (1859) on the 1861 census parents come from Liechtenstein (walton and Haberg also given). Edmund (1827)and Ann (1837) say they are from Newport Pagnell in earlier censuses and Edmunds' parents are Thomas and Martha (doesnt sound european - nor does the name Gamble!) Can anyone shed some light on this - I am totally baffled and unsure how to move forward with this research! Please have a look!

thanks Sarah
