The official records for Üveghuta were in the Roman-catholic parish of Léka (Lockenhaus) until civil recording took over from October 1895 onwards which was also in Léka. The scan of Joseph Stifter's birth certificate confirms the parish as Léka (see the word "lékai")
LDS has microfilms of the duplicates of the Roman-catholic and civil records of Léka. The original records extend further back than 1828 but can only be viewed at the parish (or at the diocesan archive in Eisenstadt).
Since 1921, Glashütten and Lockenhaus are no longer in Vas county of Hungary, but in Burgenland, Austria. Please take a look at the web site of the Burgenland Bunch (
http://www.the-burgenland-bunch.org/homepage.htm). Go to surnames and you'll see that the name Stifter is researched by quite a few members, including two with ancestors in Glashütten. Most of the other places are in the general region of Lockenhaus.

The following message is for Joseph Kupan and is unrelated to this thread. Joseph, could you please take a look at the recent message thread on the board for Burgenland, related to Töröktopolya. Never mind it was the wrong board. My post is the most recent one. It would be much better if you could attempt an interpretation of the scans there. Regards, Fritz
