My ggrandparents, Peter Martin and Elizabeth Kah, left Hungary and arrived at Ellis Island in NY in 1912. They settled in NJ. Their son, Peter, had arrived in 1907 (born c. 1892). WWII Old Man's Draft lists his place of birth as Alsonana, Hungary. About 1915, Peter (the son) left NJ and the employ of his bossy sister, Magdalena Martin Toth, with the bakery proceeds for the day. He went to WI to "cousins". I know he worked for Mitchell Motors in 1917 in Racine when he filled out his WWI papers. He was a streetcar driver for Milwaukee Electric Railway Co., which is where he met his wife, Anna Pankow, who was from Jackson in Washington Co. Family info says that Peter and Anna were married in 1919. By 1920, they were back in NJ, in time to be enumerated in the 1920 census there.
What I'm searching for is their marriage license, but I'm hopeful, if I can track down the "cousins" in WI, I'll have a better idea where to look for the license...whether in Washington, Racine or Milwaukee.
Any help I can get on the "cousins" would be greatly appreciated. I'm sorry to say I don't know if they were named Martin or Kah or other. My speculation is Martin, but I don't know what relatives ggrandfather Martin had in Hungary.
I don't believe they were Roman Catholic, but I can't be sure. My father and his siblings all had a given name and middle name as well as a saint name. I understand that's often associated with the Catholic church, but they were not raised Catholic.
Again, any and all help or suggestions, greatly appreciated.
