The town is correctly Ecseny or Ecsény, and the correct spelling of "John" in Hungarian is János.
Per the 1877 gazetteer, Lutherans had a church locally, while Roman Catholics were recorded in Mernye, and Calvinists in Mocsolád. Per the 1913 gazetteer, the civil registration office was in (FelsÅ‘)mocsolád.
