Thank you. Alajos is the correct one but Janos is not. Alajos was Janos' son. Alajos married in Hungary to Cecilia Kakuk (a different Kakuk family in Vizslas). They stayed in Cananda and I have contact with them. They don't know much about Janos because he left the family and remarried here in the states.
Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it.
Sherry

Would you be so kind as to check those for me as I know that his son Alajos immigrated to Canada.
thank you, Sherry

Thank you. I think I have seem this document before. The writing is difficult to read. The column asking if he was ever in the US before looks like it says yes 1905/1907 or is it 1900/1907?

Are you familiar with Hungarian names? This document states his wife is Kakuk, Janossue. I'm thinking that it means Mrs Janos Kakuk. Not much help.

I appreciate you taking the time to find this for me.
Sherry

Hello Eva,
I know your post is an old one but I'm hoping you're still on here.
I just found what I think is a baptism record for my Great-Grandfather, John Kakuk.
Joannes Kakuk baptized 11/29/1877 (this is his actual birthdate)
parents:
Josephus Kakuk
Julianna Kakuk

It says the event took place in Kazar, Nograd, Hungary.

John Kakuk was married in Hungary to Mari Sandor in 1899. They had a daughter Julia who married Albert Ferenc or Ferenc Albert (can't tell if this is backward). Julia was born in 1900, married in 1916 and died in 1972. She had daughters: Maris, Julia, and Ilonka.

I would love to find anyone left from this family. I do have more names of Julia's family. If you think we might have a connection, please let me know. Thanks, Sherry

Hi,
My name is Katalin and I live in Stockholm, Sweden. I have just started to do some research regarding my family and my grandfathers family name was Nógrády (Budapest). It's very important to know if your grandfathers family name was Nogradi or Nógrády, because it's a huge difference. Nógrády family is an old noble surname and they even have their own nobility crest, which I have just found. My grandfather's father was born 1863, so there might be some connection with your grandfather. My grandfather was Nógrády László János, born 30/4 1902 and his parents were Nógrády Antal, born 1863 and Heilauf Klára, born 1868. I have just heard that some relatives to my grandfather left Hungary for U.S.A. Please let me know if I can help you with more information.
Kind regards, Katalin

I am searching for ancestors or family of Julius Sebestyen, who was born in Varsany, Nograd around 1884. He had a brother Stephan. He probably immigrated to the US in the very early twentieth century. He had four children, the eldest of which was born in Connecticut, USA in 1910.

Does anyone have any information on Julius Sebestyen or his family in Hungary?

Here is more on the "Susan" surname. Hope all of this doesn't just confuse you.

Istvan Susan (Source: Civil Marriage Record, Homokterenne, Nograd, Hungary For Daughter, Katalin
Susan.). He married 11. Maria/Mary Nagy.
11. Maria/Mary Nagy (Source: Civil Marriage Record, Homokterenne, Nograd, Hungary For Daughter,
Katalin Susan.).
Notes for Istvan Susan:
Information from Immigration Records, Ellis Island, New York, New York, November, 1913.
When Katherine (Katalin in Hungarian) came to the US with her children in November, 1913, she said that her
nearest relative still in Hungary was her father, Susan, Istvan (Stephen in English). Surnames were always given
first in Hungarian records. She said that he was in Homokterenyei, Nograd, Hungary at that time.
Children of Istvan Susan and Maria/Mary Nagy are:
i. Lajos Susan, born Abt. 1883; married Piroska Nadasdi 10 Feb 1907 in Homokterenye, Nograd, Hungary
(Source: Marriage Record, Homokterenyei, Nograd, Hungary.); born Abt. 1887.
Notes for Lajos Susan:
Information from:
Marriage Record, Homokterenye, Nograd, Hungary, 1904-1908, LDS Film # 22918
Marriage Notes for Lajos Susan and Piroska Nadasdi:
The Marriage Record for Lajos and Piroska states that the place of marriage was Homoktorenyei,
Hungary and the date was February 10, 1907. It states that the groom, Lajos Susan, was a small land
owner and was 24 years old, living in Homokterenyei.
His parents were Istvan Susan and Maria Nagy.
The Bride, Piroska Nadasdi, was a housekeeper, 20 years old and living in Homokterenyei.
The names of her parents were unreadable except that her father's given name was Istvan.
5 ii. Katalin/Katherine Susan, born 20 Aug 1885 in Homokterenye, Nograd, Hungary; died 21 Oct 1963 in
Norwalk, Los Angeles, California; married Joachim/Johakim/Joakim Paul/Pall/Pal 19 Feb 1905 in
Homokterenye, Nograd, Hungary.

Bye for now,
Annette Carroll

Hello again, Brent,
Here is more on the Pal/Susan line:
Generation No. 3
4. Joachim/Johakim/Joakim Paul/Pall/Pal, born 15 Jun 1883 in Varaszo or Erdokovesd, Heves, Hungery
(Source: (1) Civil Birth Register for son, Frank, Homokterenyei, Nograd County, Hungrey., (2) Civil Marriage
Record, Homokterenne, Nograd, Hungary For Son, Joachim Pal, This Civil Marriage Record shows that Joachim
Pal was born in Erdokovesd, Heves, Hungary. This town is just south of Varaszo, Heves, Hungary.); died Jun
Ancestors of James Andrew Paul
15
1968 in Norwalk, Los Angeles, California (Source: Information from his Son, Frank's wife, Lela and their
family.). He was the son of 8. Istvan Paul/Pall/Pal and 9. Apollo Jakab. He married 5. Katalin/Katherine
Susan 19 Feb 1905 in Homokterenye, Nograd, Hungary (Source: Civil Marriage Register # 12, Homokterenyei,
Nograd, Hungary.).
5. Katalin/Katherine Susan, born 20 Aug 1885 in Homokterenye, Nograd, Hungary (Source: Civil Birth
Register for son, Frank, Homokterenyei, Nograd County, Hungrey.); died 21 Oct 1963 in Norwalk, Los Angeles,
California (Source: Information from his Son, Frank's wife, Lela and their family.). She was the daughter of 10.
Istvan Susan and 11. Maria/Mary Nagy.
Notes for Joachim/Johakim/Joakim Paul/Pall/Pal:
Information from:
Family
Birth Record, Homokterenyei, Nograd, Hungary
Civil Marriage Record, Feb. 9,1905, Homokterenye/Homokterenne, Nograd County, Hungary
Census Records
Immigration Records
Joachim and Katalin were called "Opa" and "Anya" by their grandchildren.
Some information comes from the family records of Steve Throgmorton, a descendant of Joakim Pal through his
daughter, Mary. His e-mail address is, throgs@apex.net. Ann Carroll has tried to contact him by e-mail and by
phone, but has not received an answer to date (8-05).
I have been able to get excellent help with translation and other information from a gentleman in Budapest,
Hungary and also a man who is a Hungarian researcher and Hungarian Research teacher in Los Angeles.
The gentleman from Budapest, Hungary tells me that Joakim was pronounced, "Yo-ah-keem" with an accent on
the "ah".
In Hungary, the surname Pal has an accent mark over the a and the surname, Susan also has an accent mark over
the a.
In the Civil Birth Record of Joachim Pal's son, Frank (Ferenc), it shows that Joachim was born in Varaszo, Heves,
Hungary. However, in Joachim's Civil Marriage Record, it shows that he was born in Erdokovesd, Heves,
Hungary. Erdokovesd is located just south of Veraszo, Heves, Hungary
The 1920 Census shows that Joachim/Johakim/Joakim was born in Austria, but the 1930 Census reports that he
was born in Hungary. (see below) His son Frank's Birth Record from Hungary states that Joakim was born in
Varaszo, Heves Megye (County), Hungary. (see below)
SEE NOTES FOR SON, FRANK, TO SEE INFORMATION ON JOACHIM AND WIFE KATHERINE FROM
FRANK'S CIVIL BIRTH REGISTRATION IN HOMOKTERENYEI.
This town has also been spelled: HOMOKTERENNE/
HOMOKTERENNE/HOMOKTERENYE/HOMOKTERENYA). It is spelled HOMOKTERENYE
online at Mapquest in 2005.
Ellis Island Immigration Records-Ship Manifest Records. (Keep in mind that dates and ages as well as spelling of
given names can be wrongly deciphered by the person creating the index from the handwritten copies of the ship's
list created at the port of departure.):
SHIP MANIFEST INFORMATION:
Ship Manifest Information for Joakim Pal: (LDS Fam. History Library Film #1,400,662)
The Ship Manifest for the ship "Rotterdam", sailing from Rotterdam, South Holland, The Netherlands. Date of
Arrival, November 18, 1912. (Ellis Island shows page 127-128, but numbers on the 2nd page of the Manifest
shows List 1 & a stamped # 71):
0004--Pal, Iwakun (Joakim), Male, Age 30, Male, married, Ethnicity, Hungary-Magyar (Hungarian), Place of
Residence, Homokterenya, (Nograd), Hungary, unable to read or write. Wife, Joakimne (which means Joakim's
wife). He is in possession of $20.00 and is going to Adena, Ohio. He is going to join a friend, Josef Vano in
Adena, Ohio, he is in good health, is 5ft 3 inches tall, has a fair complexion and has brown hair and gray eyes. He
states that he has never been in the United States before and is not a Polygamist or an Anarchist. He states that he
has never been in prison. The person listed on the line above Joakim is Istvan Todor (see below), age 26 from
Homokterenya as well. He says he is going to join his (brother in law?-very hard to read), Josef Vano in Adena,
Ohio. (There is an Adena, Ohio on the border between Harrison Co. and Jefferson Co., Ohio.)
In my conversation on Oct. 29, 2004 with Lela (Isaacs) Paul, daughter-in- law of Joakim, Pal, she said that
Joakim had a sister, Mary who married a man whose surname was "Fodor". She also said that this Mr. Fodor
might have been instrumental in helping Joakim get jobs in the mines in Ohio and Illinois. This leaves me
wondering if the "Istvan Todor", age 26, listed in the Ship Manifest (above) on the line above Joakim Pal could
have been "Istvan Fodor", not "Todor". While looking again at the Ship Manifest for Joakim Pal, I notice that
the surname for the man listed above Joakim could be "Fodor" and when he is asked who he leaves in Hungary,
he gives the common name for his wife, "Istvanne" (wife of Istvan) and says her surname was Pal. Since he was
age 26, he could have been Joakim's sister's husband. He also was from the same place in Hungary that Joakim
and Katalin were from.
Ship Manifest Information for Joakimne (Mrs.) Pal: (LDS Fam. History Library Film #1,400,908)
The Ship Manifest for the ship, "Pannonia" sailing from Carnaro, Triest, Austria (now Italy), (Port of Departure,
Fiume?) Date of Arrival, November 18, 1913. (Ellis Island shows page 244-245, but numbers on the 2nd page of
the Manifest shows List 2 & a stamped # 125):
0013--Pal, Foabimne (this was Katherine and she used her husband Joakim's name, adding the usual "ne",
meaning wife of Joakim), Female, Age 28, Married, a housewife, Ethnicity, Hungary, Howokterewtsm (spelled
incorrectly...should be Homokterenya). She is going to Wasson, IL (in Saline Co., IL) and her passage was paid
by her Husband, Joakim, Wasson, IL. She is 5 ft. 2 inches, her eyes and hair are black and she has a dark
complexion. It states that she can read and write, but the children cannot. Under "Nearest Relative or Friend in
County From Whence Alien Came", it states, "Father, Susan, Istvan, ("Istvan" is Steven in English) in
Homokterenya". Her place of birth is Homokterenya.
The surname "Susan", seems to agree with the surname of Katherine's surname on her son's Civil Register Birth
record from Homokterenya, Nograd, Hungary. This same person is shown as the children's Grandfather. (See
further information in her notes.)
Pal, Jerencs (Jerencs is Hungarian for Frank), Male, Age 8, Single. Passage paid by Father. (Gave same
Ethnicity info. as his mother.)
Pal, Alona (Alona or Ilona is Hungarian for Helen), Female, Age 6, Single. Passage paid by Father. (Gave same
Ethnicity info. as her mother.)
Pal, Maria (Mary), Female, Age 2, Single. Passage paid by Father. (Gave same Ethnicity info. as her mother.)
1930 U.S. Census, Orient, Franklin, Illinois:
Pall, Johakim, Head of the household, age 46, married at age 26, born in Hungary, Father born in Hungary and
Mother born in Hungary. Language spoken before coming to U.S., Slovak. He immigrated to U.S. in 1912/1913
and is not naturalized. His occupation is a Loader in a Coal Mine. Johakim Pall's home is valued at $1,000.00.
They do not live on a farm.
Pall, Katherine, Wife, age 43, married at age 18, born in Hungary, Father born in Hungary and Mother born in
Hungary. Language spoken before coming to the U.S., Slovak. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1913 and is not
naturalized.
Pall, Elizabeth, Daughter, age 15, Single, born in Illinois
Pall, John, Son, age 13, Single, born in Illinois
Pall, Albert, Son, age 10, Single, born in Illinois
Pall, Rose, Daughter, age 10, Single, born in Illinois
Also in the 1930 U.S. Census, living next door to Johakim and Katherine Pall:
Their son, FRANK, age 23 with his wife, Lela (Isaacs) Pall. He was born in Hungary and Immigrated to the U.S.
in 1913. His occupation was a Miner in a Coal Mine. (See notes for son, Frank.)
Their daughter, Mary, age 18 is living with her husband Joe Homan next door to them as well. She was born in
Hungary and Immigrated to the U.S. in 1913, She is naturalized (possibly because she married a U.S. citizen).
Her age at the time of her marriage was18. She spoke Slovak before coming to the U.S. Her husband, Joe
Ancestors of James Andrew Paul
17
Homan's information on this Census says he was born in Ohio, is age 21 and his Mother and Father were born in
Hungary. His age at the time of his marriage was 21.
1920 U.S. Census, Orient, Franklin, Illinois:
Pall, "Jake", Head of household, age 37, Immigrated to the U.S. in 1913 and was not naturalized. In this census
he gives his place of birth as Austria and says his mother tongue was Austria-Slovak. He gives the same birth
information for his mother and father.
He is not able to speak English and is a Miner in a Coal Mine. He is not able to read or write.
Pall, "Katy", Wife, age 34, Immigrated to the U.S. in 1913 and was not naturalized. (See husband's notes for that information.)
The Hungarian practice of writing a wife's given name is to write the husband's given name and add "ne" on the
end of it (Joakimne).
In Hungary, the surname Susan has an accent mark above the a.
SEE SON FRANK'S NOTES FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING KATHERINE FROM HIS
CIVIL BIRTH RECORD.
On the Civil Registration of Birth for Frank Pal, her son, it shows that his mother's name was Susan, Katalin
(Katherine). (The Pal family says that her surname was in fact, Susan, with the emphasis on the "a"). A
Hungarian Research Teacher that I have worked with says that the person's surname is always given first in
Hungarian records. A gentleman in Hungary also says that is true.
The Ship Manifest when Katherine and the children came to the U.S., states that her "Nearest Relative Or Friend
In The Country From Whence She Came" was her Father, (surname) "Susan", (given name), "Istvan" (which is
Steven in English) from Homokterenya, Hungary.
On the same Ship's Manifest that lists Katherine, there is a Tuna Hurcsan, a female, age 22, who says that she is
also going to Wasson, IL to Joachim Pal. It seems to read that she is his wife's cousin.
In the 1882 Gazetteer of Hungary, Nograd County, "Homok-Terenne" (there are other spellings for this town
also) was in Fuleki jaras (District) and "Matra-Szele" was in Fuleki jaras (District) as well.
Marriage Notes for Joachim/Johakim/Joakim Paul/Pall/Pal and Katalin/Katherine Susan:
The Civil Marriage Record # 12 dated February 19, 1905 in Homoterenyei/Homokterenne, Nograd, Hungary
states:
Ancestors of James Andrew Paul
18
Appeared before Szeremy, Karoly, Registrar.
As Groom, Pal, Joachim, Roman Catholic, Coal Miner, Resident of Homokterenne, born at Erdokovesd in 1883,
June 15.
Father's name Pal, Istvan, Coal Miner, Resident of Homokterenne.
Mother's name, Pal, Istvanne (Istvan's wife), nee Jakab, Apollo (Apollo could be short for Appolonia).
Father's name, Pal, Istvan, Coal Miner, Resident of Homokterenne.
As Bride, Susan, Katalin, Roman Catholic, Home Maker, Resident of Homokterenne, Born at Homokterenne in
Aug. 19, 1885
Father's name, Susan, Istvan, Farmer, Resident of Homokterenne.
Mother's name, Susan, Istvanne (Istvan's wife), nee Nagy, Maria, Housewife, Resident of Homokterenne.
It is good to remember that surnames are always shown first and given names second on all records in Hungary.
Children of Joachim/Johakim/Joakim Paul/Pall/Pal and Katalin/Katherine Susan are:
2 i. Frank Paul/Pall/Pal, born 10 Oct 1905 in Matraszele, Janosakna Colony, Nograd, Hungary; died 01 Mar
2002 in La Mirada, Los Angeles, California; married Lela Isaacs 13 Nov 1929 in Johnson City,
Williamson, Illinois.
ii. LDS Film # 2328606.
On her Birth Record Helen's name is written as Ilona. Ilona is Hungarian for Helen.
This record states that her Father, Joachim Pal, was age 24 and her Mother, Katalin Susan, was age 22
when she was born.
This record also states that her Father's occupation was "Coal Miner" and that he and her Mother were
Roman Catholic.
Helen appears with her Mother and siblings on the Ship Manifest in 1913 coming to America. She did not appear on the Ship Manifest showing Katalin coming to the U.S. with the other
children in November, 1913, so she must have died before they emigrated.

Hope this helps,
Annette Carroll

This is what I have on the Pal/Susan Surname. I did this family history for a family member in 2005, but it is not my line. If I am able to find more, I will let you know:
2. Frank Paul/Pall/Pal, born 10 Oct 1905 in Matraszele, Janosakna Colony, Nograd, Hungary (Source:
Civil Birth Register, Homokterenyei, Nograd County, Hungrey.); died 01 Mar 2002 in La Mirada, Los Angeles,
California (Source: Social Security Death Records, La Mirada, Los Angeles, California.). He was the son of 4.
Joachim/Johakim/Joakim Paul/Pall/Pal and 5. Katalin/Katherine Susan. He married 3. Lela Isaacs 13 Nov
1929 in Johnson City, Williamson, Illinois (Source: Information From Lela (Isaacs) Paul.).
3. Lela Isaacs, born 12 Dec 1911 in West Frankfort, Franklin, Illinois (Source: Delayed Birth Record,
Franklin County, IL, #282.). She was the daughter of 6. William Allen Isaacs and 7. Lula Ellen
Ancestors of James Andrew Paul
12
Wharry/Wherry.
Notes for Frank Paul/Pall/Pal:
Information from:
Civil Birth Register-Hungary. In the possession of James Andrew Paul. This record was dated December, 1940.
It could have been a copy of the Birth Record because it was needed for Naturalization in the U.S. or Social
Security benefits. It was issued in Homokterenyei, (also written "Homok-Terenne or Homokterenne"), Nograd
County, Hungary. It was signed by his mother Joachimne (Mrs. Joachim) Pal. It was probably obtained through
a Hungarian Embassy or Consulate here in the United States because they were already living here.
Even though this record was issued in Homokterenyei, Nograd, Hungary, the record states that Frank's birthplace
was "Matrazsele", Nograd, Hungary (see below)*.
We have a copy of the original Birth Record as well for Frank and it includes the same information as the copied
Birth Record.
Both Birth Records clearly show that Frank's birth date was October 10, 1905, not October 11, the date on which
he always celebrated his birthday.
Information from Lela (Isaacs) Paul and other Family information
U.S. Census records
Social Security Death Records
*On June 12, Annette Carroll was able to meet with a Hungarian Research Specialist and teacher at the LDS Family.
History. Library in Los Angeles, CA. He has helped to read the Civil Birth Registration for Frank Pal ("Ferenc"
in Hungarian). She has also been able to contact a Hungarian gentleman in Budapest, Hungary who has been a
great help in translation, information on Hungary and the Hungarian language.
Delayed Birth Record For Frank Pal: (See copy in Scrapbook)
The Delayed Birth Record Extract for Frank (Ferenc) Pal shows that he was born October 10, 1905 at 8 AM.
According to his family, he always celebrated his birthday on October 11. His Mother gave the information for
this Delayed Birth Record. This record states that Frank was born in Matraszele, Janosakna Colony. It also states
that he as well as his parents were Roman Catholic.
The record also states that the place of residence for his father, (Pal, Joachim) was Matraszele, Janosakna Colony
(in Nograd Co., Hungary) and that Joachim's place of birth was Varaszo, Heves Co., Hungary. He was 23 when
Frank was born. His occupation was a coal miner.
It states that Frank's mother was Susan, Katalin. (The Hungarian Research Specialist says that Susan would have
been her surname because Hungarian records always listed the maiden name of the mother and names are always
written with the surname first and then the given name. This has been verified by the Pal family.) It states that
Katalin was Roman Catholic, that she was a Housewife and that she resided in Matraszele, Jnosakna Colony.
Matraszele was in Nograd County, Hungary. The record shows that she was born in Homokterenne, (also spelled,
Homok-Terenne, Homokterenyei, Homokterenya and Homokterenye), also in Nograd County, Hungary.
We have the original Birth Record which gives the same information as the Delayed Birth Record.
The man from Budapest, Hungary with whom I have corresponded tells me that Frank's place of birth in
Matraszele, (Janosakna Colony), was a colony built around a mine shaft named Janos (John). It was and is a
frequent practice in Hungary that mine shafts were/are given Christian names, then the homes of the miners
were/are built near to the mine and the colony was/is named after the mine shaft.
Annette Carroll received information that Janosakna (Colony) still exists today and is a very small settlement.
Maps indicate that Homokterenye and Matraszele are in Nograd Magye (County), Fuleki District as of the 1913
Map (done before World War 1 began in 1914). I have another map in a handout from a Hungarian
Researcher/Teacher that shows that parts of Hungary after World War 1 went to Austria, Slovakia, Poland,
Ukraine, Rumania and Yugoslavia. The Joachim Pal family emigrated to the United States in 1912 and 1913 so
the places where they said they lived in Hungary are still in Hungary.
The man in Budapest, Hungary that contacted Annette Carroll (compiler of this family history), Lajos (given
name) Reich (surname), (reichl@aik.hu), says that Homokterenye is an old settlement, originally named
"Atyahaza" "(House of Father)" and that (in 2004), three villages that were close together, Homokterenye,
Janosakna and Nadujfalu, are a new settlement named Matraterenye, (also spelled, Matraterenya). The librarian
of the town is named Janosne Kurti (Mrs. Kurti). Her e-mail address is matraterenye@xmail.profinter.hu. He
suggests contacting her by regular mail: Kurti, Janosne (wife of Janos or Mrs.) Konyvtaros (given name),
Matraterenye, Kossuth UT 178, Europe-Hungary. He also suggests contacting one of the leaders of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, who was born in Homokterenye, at the Hungarian Embassy in Washington, DC: Dr. Gecse,
Attila, 3910 Shoemaker Street, NW Washington D.C. 20008. He assures me that "the people of Nograd are very
very friendly" and that I should not hesitate to contact them.
1930 Census, Orient, Franklin, Illinois:
Pall, Frank, Head of the household, age 23, born in Hungary, Father born in Hungary, Mother born in Hungary,
Language in Hungary, Slovak. Year of Immigration, 1913, not naturalized. Occupation, Miner in a Coal Mine.
Pall, Lela, Wife, age 18, born in Illinois, Father born in Illinois, Mother born in Illinois.
Pall, Frank, Son, age 1 Month., born in Illinois, Father born in Hungary, Mother born in Illinois
The Pall family is listed in this Census living next door to Lela's parents, "Allen" and Lula Isaacs and also Frank's
parents, Johakim and Katherine Pall and their family. See notes for those families for their information from
those Census records.
Frank was always so grateful to be an American and after he visited family in Hungary, he and Lela sent money
back to them on a regular basis so that one of the children in the family could attend college. The family in
Hungary were very poor.
Frank also worked for the Post Office as a Mail Carrier for many years.
According to the Social Security Death Records, Frank Paul was born 11 Oct., 1905 (should be Oct. 10 according
to his Birth Record). He died, 1 Mar., 2002. His Social Security Number was 345-05-1932. It was issued in
Illinois. His residence at the time of his death was La Mirada, Los Angeles, CA, 90638.
Lela (Isaacs) Paul says that Frank got his Citizenship papers much later than his mother and father.
Hope this helps,
Annette Carroll

Roswitha Fendrik

Location of Szt Marton

Hi,

The paternal side of my family is originally from Nograd area. Spitzer part is from Szecseny and Berger part
is from Shirkovce area (south of Rimavska Sobota). My father's aunt Franzi Berger married (around 1907 +-5 years)
???? Mandel and they lived in Ozd. Her parents were Jozef Berger and Rosa Rosalia Konig, married in 1862.
Ozd is in Hungary on the other side of today's border with Slovakia, maybe 10 miles from Shirkovce.

When searching the LDS tape that contains data on Ozd (births 1868 - 1895), I found two children (Herman b. 1871 and Franczi b.1873) born to Jozef Berger and Rozi Konig that lived in Szt. Marton. I am trying to locate Szt. Marton. I did not have too much luck and I would appreciate your help. One of my guesses is a village called now Martinova which is located in Slovakia very near the border across the city of Ozd. I know there is in western Slovakia a city/village called Svaty Martin (which
translates well into Szt Marton but it is very
far and will not fit my hunch).

Any ideas/comments are welcome

Thanks

Shaul Berger
Forget to add, that the LDS filmed the records for MOL, with other words the FHLC and the MOL films should be the same with different numbering systems, most likely the FHLC list messed up.
Joseph

It seems the first three FHLC rolls of Nézsa covers 1714-1895:

Kereszteltek 1714-1735 Házasultak, halottak 1714-1736 7224276

Kereszteltek 1735-1834 722428

Kereszteltek 1835-1895 722429

Halottak 1737-1752 722430

I checked the MOL Hungarian National Archives also, it covers the same time period:
Note: Vegyes=Mixed covers 1714-1752

Római katolikus egyház

Váci egyházmegye

Nézsa (Rk)
Nisa
Születési anyakönyv: 1735 - 1895
Házassági anyakönyv: 1752 - 1895
Halotti anyakönyv: 1752 - 1895
Vegyes anyakönyv: 1714 - 1752
Felvétel: 2314 Filmszám: A 5345-5348

Marriages Records in Nezsa

The family history center only has marriage records for Nezsa before 1735. I'm wondering if anyone knows if R.C. marriage records might be available after 1735 either with the parish or some other locality. I didn't think it would be that hard to research with only birth records, but it is quite difficult establishing relationships. Thanks Chip

Looking for any information on these two families. Frank Ringmuller m. Mary Reinberger in 1901 in Salgótarján. He left his mother there, I believe - she left her whole family: father/mother and 4 brothers. Any information appreciated.
