descendants of Sandor Nagy and Zsuzsanna Takacs

We are searching for descendants of Sandor Nagy and Zsuzsanna Takacs. Their children were Sandor b. 1874,Istvan b.1875, Zsofia b.1879,Erzsebeth,our grandmother b.1883,Benedek b.1886.These children were born in Tap, but we have reason to believe there was a brother to Sandor Sr. named Mihaly(Michael)Nagy who according to records married a Julianna Balasz in Fejer county. We suspect this Nagy family may have lived in Fejer county at one time. Please reply here or to bee9g@yahoo.com.

Good to hear from you. I am married to a Dee decendant and the Yurigai was his grandmother. I have info on Thomas that immigrated to the US in 1906. It looks like he may have been married prior to coming to the US with possible children. Any info sharing or history will be greatly appreciated.

I too, would love if someone could offer some help on these family lines.

My great grandfather, Istvan Unferdorben, was christened in Balinka 22 Feb 1873. He married (1st) Carolina Wagner, daughter of Anton Wagner & Eva Piedl(?) and (2nd) Wilhelmina Morenics.

Familysearch shows his parents listed as Istvan Unferdorben and Katalin Stohl.

I believe Istvan (Sr)'s father was Jakob Unferdorben who married Teresia Schweighardt (Schvaigert).

With so many with the same names, both first and surnames all marrying each other it's quite a challenge to try to figure out which person belongs to which branch.

If anyone has been able to work out these families and would offer help, I would certainly appreciate it.

The people that emigrated all seemed to wind up in the Passaic, New Jersey area.

Looking forward to hearing from any new 'cousins' and finally getting this line sorted. I'm terrible (so far) at trying to decipher original records and familysearch only goes so far...but it is a great help.

I wonder if the person that started this thread is related to Eva & Zsa Zsa Gabor...Wouldn't be at all surprised as everyone seems to be related in these small villages.

Thanks in advance.

Stephen

I believe you just found another ancestor of mine that I can now add to my tree...Maria Unferdorben.

My great grandfather was Istvan (Stephen) Unferdorben, born 22 Feb 1873 in Balinka, and married first Carolina Wagner (also from Fejer county) 6 Feb 1897 in Passaic; prob at St Mary's Assumption RC Slovak church and had 3 children - 1 son that lived only a few months and 2 daughters: Carolina who was called Lena and went into the convent and died young (abt 22 yrs old) and Agnes, who later married George Grisgraber and after a short time in Passaic they move to Southbury, CT. Carolina Wagner's parents were Anton Wagner and Eva Peidl and Carolina died abt 1902 in Passaic from TB.

Istvan then married Wilhelmina Marinisz [AFTER ONLY ^WEEKS!] (church records spell it Morenecs) in Passaic and then moved to Southbury, CT. and had a son Alfred that only lived a few months, then Martin, Helen, Florence and Mildred. Istvan died in Southbury in 1914.

Istvan had a sister, Anna (also from Balinka, born 19 Aug 1875) and she married George John Grisgraber of Istemer in Fejer county). Istvan and Anna's parents were Istvan Unferdorben, born Aug 1849 in Balinka and Katlin Stohl or Szoht, born abt 1855 in Balinka.

I believe that Istvan, Sr's parents were: Jakab Unferdorben and Teresia Schweighardt.

From familysearch.org I found that Jakab and Teresia had an Anna Maria born 11 Jun 1841 in Balinka and a Katalina born 7 Jan 1844. Katalina apparently married a Jozsef Schveighart, born abt 1840 (I thought also from Balinka) and they had a son, Kristof born 20 Sep 1844.

Maybe you and I can compare trees and see how these families fit together, as they certainly seem to be related.

BTW, what was your trip to Hungary like? I intend to travel there next year. I have the name of a genealogist from Istemer that is also a Grisgraber and likely related and she also speaks English.

I hit a brick wall, however, with Istvan, Jr's 2nd wife's family...my maternal greats as the girls'mother was widowed twice when they arrived and I have no idea of a maiden name. But I believe she was from Ungvar.

I have lots of pictures and genealogies of some of the families if you are interested.

Cheers!

Stephen

Hello,

I have been able to trace my G-grandfather, Joseph Schmidt B. 1884, back to Adony, but nothing else. He travelled with the family of Ferencz Gewai and there is a family tale that they were family. I think I have found his parents but only as there were not too many children born in that year with his name. Any help would be greatly appereicated!

Thanks
Teresa

Hello Peter

I am so very glad to hear back from you. I am 40 and living just outside Newark NJ. I have only been working on my great grandmothers family for a short time. At this moment I cannot tell you exactly how we are related. My great grandmother, Kristina Gall, came to NYC in 1890. She married my Great Grandfather in Manhattan in 1895. They eventually settled in Clifton NJ, on the Passaic border.
I have been reading through the microfilmed copies of the Isztimer Church records. Kristina Gall's mother was named Theresia Winkler and she was born in Isztimer in 1839. Due to time restraints, I have only focused my research on the 1753-1844 records. I do possess records up till 1895.

I can however say we are almost definitely related. I have traced all of the Winklers of Isztimer back to one individual family member. Mathias Winkler was born about the year 1711 in an unknown location(as per 1777 death).
If you give me a regular email I can send you a copy of a hand written hierarchy of the Winkler's of Isztimer before the year 1844.

If you send me some names and dates to look for, I can make the connection. I already see the marriage of George Winkler and Mary Werger circa 1873... I will also see if I can make a rough connection with familysearch birth.

I hope that I will one day visit Isztimer. For now it will have to wait. I'd love to see some pictures.

I cannot speak by phone at the moment.
No more minutes till after 22nd of month.

Im happy to share whatever I have.

Stephan Wall
wall_stephan@yahoo.com
Hi Stephan-
Thanks for contacting me. I'm 72 and I have been dabbling in my Family Tree for about 14 years or more. I live in a small Adirondack town called Schroon Lake which is about 20 miles north of Lake George village. I have a lot of data on family members who lived in Isztimer, but I have to admit that it is poorly organized. One of the things I have is a NJ newspaper clipping from 1923 when my greatgrandfather George Winkler and his wife Mary Werger celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They both were born and married in Isztimer and they came to the US in the late 1890's about 5 years after their oldest son (my grandfather) George came here. I believe that both of them worked in the Botany Woolen Mills in Passaic which employed a group of people who were originally from Isztimer. They had 14 children, most of whom were deceased by 1923. Your greatgrandmother may have been one of them. My records indicate a Theresa Winkler born 10/2/1891 and died 1/5/1963. Was that your greatgrandmother?
I would love to see family tree material that you have in order to see how we fit in together. I have a new scanner and I am still learning how it works, but I'll try to accommodate you regarding material that might be helpful to you.
I visited Isztimer with my son about 7 years ago and it was interesting to see the farming village where my ancestors lived for 20 years. However, there are no close family members living there now that I know of. I have made friends with someone named Maria Angeli who is a US Army officer currently stationed in Germany. She also seems to be related as the name Angeli is in my family tree also.
I'll close now. I hope we can continue to exchange information
Peter Winkler
518-532-9585

Where did they settle in the US? A large number of Schweighardts settled in the Passaic, NJ area. Also, as I'm sure you've found out, there were a lot of Schweighardts in Balinka and a lot of them, if not all, were related. I have Schweighardts in my family background - My g-g-grandparents were Janos and Anna Schweighardt.
Have you tried familysearch.com? It's the LDS site and I have found a lot of info from there.
Linda

Hello! My name is Ed Schweighardt and I'm researching my family history and have run into difficulties.

My great grandfather was Joseph Schweighardt (born 1879 Balinka) and married Mathild Beidl (born 1881 Balinka). I do know that he came to the States in 1898 with his brother Thomas and sister Anna.

My question my Great Grandfather parents are rumored to be a Jon and Theresa Schweighardt which has verbally been passed down. I have not been able to confirm or find any records of them. However on early cenus it list his parents as coming from Balinka.

If you have a history of them I would grearly appreciate it. Thank you very much!

Ed
I hope you will get my reply, despite it being more than a year after your post!

Your great-great grandmother, Elizabeth Huber, was born Erzsebet Huber on September 27, 1876. Her parents were Andras (Andreas) Huber and Terez (Theresa) Modlagl. She married Gregor Schaffer. They had at least one child in Hungary, Gregor, who died at age 2 on January 24, 1906 in Gant. His father (Gregor) was already living in Passaic at that time.

Elizabeth's older brother Istvan (Stephen) Huber was my great-great-great grandfather. His daughter, Mary Anna Huber, married my great-great grandfather Ignatz Bauer on May 23, 1909. They immigrated to the US in 1912 as well.

Melissa

It's along story, so I'll try to keep it short. I've been researching my Fathers Joseph Mack Family from Isztimer, Hungary. His real surname was Mak, but it changed overtime to Mak > Makk > Mack. In my files the name Mathias is also Matyas. Georgius is Gyorgy, Barbola is Barbara, Catharina is Katalin, Joannes is Janos. So in Hungary their names were changed. If you were German or Dutch you tried to keep Mak, but if you were German/Hungarian (Megyar) you use Makk. My Grandfathers surname was changed to Mack when he came to America @ 1899, but changed it back to Makk when he went back to Hungary in 1913, and died 1921. I hope this helps you. I am currently scanning Death, Marriages, Births files, from 1895 - 1960 at FamilySearch.org.

It is still a very small village, so small and unchanging that my Great Grandfathers house is still there and the people who live in it are like 4th cousins to me.. my oldest Great Aunt in the village is 92 years or more old, ...

My grandmother was born in 1897/8 so I'm guessing my g-grandparents were married about 1895/6 in Balinka. Based on what my mother has said I'm guessing they died sometime in the 1940's (my mother was trying to save money after graduating high school to take her mother there to see her family, but they never made it because of the war). That would have made them in their 70's ( Jozsef Hoffer and Maria Frauenberger Hoffer). There was another daughter who was born sometime after 1914, Elizabeth, who my grandmother never saw.

I have just found out some additional info on my grandmother's family in Balinka, HU. Her brother Jozsef Hoffer died August 12, 1973 (born 1903) and sister Anna Hoffer (born 1906) died a few days later while visiting her brother's grave. The parents were Jozsef Hoffer (born about 1874) and Maria Frauenberger (born about 1878). I'm unable to get much more than that from LDS. Does anyone have any connection to these names or know where else I can look? I've got an address for a Catholic Church in Balinka I'm going to try, but haven't had too much luck in getting replies from anyone I've written to before. Thanks!

Hi,
I believe my maternal grandfather was named Gyula Budai and was born in 1897. I don't know much about him, except he was a shoemaker and was married to Erzsebet Petro. During the 1930's he and his family lived in Pomaz Hungary just north of Budapest. There was a record of an Anna Budai, but I'm not sure if she is related by blood or marriage. As far as I know he only had 2 children.

Greetings
My grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Borovich - married to John Eugene Hoffer. It is possible that she migrated to the United States about the time that you mention. I have pieces of information but not much. I have nothing other than their names and the names of my father's siblings. I do know that my grandfather John was a genius who had many patents on elevator safety mechanisms but he was also an alcoholic and never realized his fullest potential. I know that they lived in the "Austro Hungarian Empire" but I have read Austria and have been told Hungary.... if you know of any more info on Mary Hoffer from Hungary - pls let me know and Merry Christmas.

Dear Mr. Lieb,

I found some photos of your family. I hope you can open these attached files. Are you really in these pictures?
Well, your grandmother (Mary Ruip) was the elder sister of my greatfather (Istvan Pataki, died in 1991 in Kislang, Fejer county). Mary sent a lot of letters, photos and packages for my greatfather's family. She could have been very kind to take care of the Hungarian relatives.
My e-mail address is fjutka7@freemail.hu. You can send me some new photos of your family and please help me to complete this attached family tree.

Thank you very much:
Judit
Dear Russell Lieb,

Thank you very much for your answer. It is very good to hear about our distant relatives from the other side of the world. I think you must have a very nice big family.
Let me introduce myself and my family, too. I am 27 years old, I live in Budapest and work as a secretary. I am not married yet. My mother is Julianna, she is 56 years old, she is a clerk. My father is Denes, he is 58 years old, he is retired. My parents have been married for 32 years. I have a brother, Gabor, he is 30 years old, he is an economist and he is not married yet. They live in Miskolc. My mother's mother, Julianna Pataki lives in Kislang in Fejer county.
I think I have an old photo of your father, I will look for it soon when I will travel home to visit my family. I can try to send you this photo. Thank you once more for your letter.

Hello
In all my research i find that my grandfather surname was Mak, It was changed to Mack when he arrived in the US 1899. Thats how the person at Ellis Island spelled it, so my grandfather didn't correct him, so he kept it as is.

My ancestors were of German decent and thier surnames were

Mak, Makk or Mack
Valler or Waller
Huber
Freiz or Fritz
Erszinger

They came from Isztimer, Paks, and Guttamasi
