As a novice to the field of geneology, I am seeking assistance for a roadblock I've encountered. I am trying desperately to decipher a great-grandmother's maiden name. It is listed on a ship's manifest, but I cannot read it well. I've tried many possible spellings, but my LDS searches have not produced plausible matches.
Here's what I know: Her first name was Clara but on the ship's manifest she is listed as SZAKACS, ALBERTUS (her husband's name). She came on the ship "Main" from Breman and the manifest date is Nov 21, 1908 although the ship arrived in the US in early December. Her daughter, Erszi, was born in 1905 in Kassa, Hungary, so I am guessing that Clara was born and/or lived around that area. The manifest with Clara's MOTHER's NAME (the one I can't make out, but it starts with a "B") says Hernadpetri (?) is the town. If anyone has a way of deciphering Clara's mother's last name from the manifest, I would be most indebted.
Also, does anyone know where I can get a record of those on this ship (above) who died at sea during the voyage? Thank you.
