So what did they change their surname *from*?

There's no Boldogasszonyfa in Baranya county. There is one in Somogy, which is the next county over; the civil registration office was in Szentlászló.

Um, in fact, is this them?

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-21549-34280-72...
Hungary, Civil Registration, 1895-1980 - Somogy - Szent-László - Marriages (Házasultak) 1895-1903 - Image 273 of 292

Groom Péfi Ferenc, residence Boldogasszonyfa, son of Péfi Ferenc and the late Háber Terézia; bride Nyers Katalin, residence Boldogasszonyfa, daughter of Nyers Miklós and the late Purgreth Terézia; marriage date Feb. 8, 1903.

I'll leave finding their son's birth record as an exercise for the student. :-)

You're welcome.
Since he was a typesetter that required for him to travel than possible it is what it is, the location that is. Just to be 100% sure do double check the document to make sure there is no S.Ofalu on the document, if not than it is Ofalu, Baranya.
Zlatica

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of the information you have sent! Yes. . .I did see that Ofalu is quite far from Bolyar and you may be correct in thinking he actually lived in Sarosofalu! I will check my documents from home for any further clues. My grandfather was a typesetter before coming to America. I have his "employment book" and will look to see what towns he worked in. It is possible he travelled around I guess, being a typesetter.

Thanks again.

I am looking for information on my family. My great-grandfather's name is Imre Raboj. The US Department of Labor - Declaration of Intention documents dated April 16, 1917, show Imre Raboj's place of birth as Mozsgo, Hungary, on November 6, 1877.

Imre Raboj immigrated from Hungary to the USA on May 10, 1913 at port on entry New York, NY, with his wife Marie Raboj. Imre and Marie (Marie's maiden name is Kostelenski. Her father's name is Joseph Kostelenski) left behind two daughters, Helen and Margaret. They had a third child, Emil, in the USA.

Can anyone help me trace my family from Hungary?

With much thanks!
Quote from an information board in Vianden. Does this explain the name Viant in Austria (Burgoland)? presumably the emigrants would have taken the name as originating in Vianden.
In the 13 and 14 century the counts of Vianden, the most powerful rulers in the region between the Our River and the West Eifel, fought fiercely against the Counts of Luxembourg for predominance over the region between the Meuse and Moselle Rivers. In 1140, Frederick 1 of Vianden assisted the Archbishop of Trier in a fued against Henry 1V of Luxembourg. The villages whose houses had been pillaged and ravaged during the fights followed the appeal of King Geza 11 of Hungary and emigrated to Transylvania where the Moselle Frankish language has been preserved to this day.

Presumably the Viant tribe migrated across what is now Hungary, Austria, eastern France (Lorraine), ending up in Cornwall England in the 16c - where they largely are to this day. and always just ahead of the next war or battle. In the 19c many (mostly miners) emigrated to USA, Australia and South Africa. My branch (Bodmin Cornwall) became lawyers, tax inspectors, doctors and engineers - as they are to this day but now scattered along Englands' south coast.
Annette Viant Seekings

HI, I have found wills in hamilton ohio of arnold, albert, rosa and also max dormer. The family says we came from germany but we are unable to find much else. I found a immigration list of Max dormer, doermer from the hesse port. Do you have info on these people? The census 1890 has them in hamilton ohio. Thank you so much.
