Hi Kathy,

I came across your post because I also have family that lived in Arnsfelde (now, Gostomia) Deutch Krone! We are in the process of requesting records from the archives from that area, so I thought I'd pass on the information to you.

Your post mentioned that the records were destroyed in WWII, but I don't think that was the case. It seems they were moved to an an archive. Our family (Bukowsky) was Catholic, and I followed the trail of Catholic archives for the Arnsfelde area to the Archives of the Diocese of Koszalin-Kolobrzeska. The archives are held in Poland now, and the site is in Polish, so you may want to use an online translator for the webiste: http://www.archiwum.koszalin.opoka.org.pl/
Or you can follow the link for Księgi metrykalne, which will take you to the record/year listings.

I believe Arnsfelde belonged to the Rose (entry 32) but you may also want to check out entries 49 and 50 for the Walcz (Deutch Krone) because Walcz is near Arnsfelde. There are both Catholic and Protestant records for Walcz.

I hope this helps you!

Hi - just found this posting. I'm trying to find records for Cieszyn, which I have been told by a German relative is a small town (village) in Kreis/County Strasburg. Have you had any luck - it's been a few years since you posted this?

Regards,
Claudine
PS: I'd be happy to share my info with you.

Not part of that list, but: diphtheria is also a possibility. This one wiped out several children in a branch of my family in around the 1880s. This was not in West Prussia though but in Schleswig-Holstein.

I had another response from a gentleman who introduced himself as a professional researcher. He said that the stone reads Radumein and that it is probably the English spelling for Radomin. I think it more likely that Ultman's American wife didn't know how to spell it and the headstone carver put what he heard, assuming that the stone really does say Radumein. I really can't tell. Here is a link to the page I found using the site that you provided. There is a link to a map on it and I used it to see where Radomin is in relationship to Berlin, just out of curiosity. http://www.kartenmeister.com/preview/City.asp?CitNum=21800

This is a tough one. Have you tried using this website? You can input just the first few letters ("Rod" ?) and see what comes up:

http://www.kartenmeister.com/preview/databaseuwe.asp

Using ShetlSeeker, a few possibilities came up when I put in "Rodamcin," which is possibly what the gravestone looks like to me. Maybe it is "Rudniczyn"? or "Rozdzien" or "Radnicken"?

http://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp

There are links to maps, etc., at my website's Contact/FAQ page (see "Searching for Prussian/Polish ancestors"). See also my Links page for more ideas.

Good luck!
Michelle Stone
"German Immigrant Ancestors in Syracuse & Onondaga Co., NY"
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mstone/

My Great-great-great-great-Grandfather Ultman Jergins is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Huntsville, Walker Co., Texas. We have always been told that he was born in Rodanier, Prussia April, 1789. I have found no records for a town by that name. I recently received a headstone photo from a kind volunteer. It has the name of the town, but I can't read it all. I have attached the photo hoping someone else will recognize it. I sincerely appreciate any help deciphering it!!! Cathey

I also have ancestors from these places too. First, the Jungfer records only go back to the 1790s but the church building (which is still there, though now Catholic)looks much older. I checked Furstenau and Tiegenort for earlier records for the Jungfer area, but it became obvious those churches did not cover that town (at least for most of the 18th century). The earlier church records for the Jungfer area probably existed but are now apparently missing.

The church records from Zeyer cover Stuba (start in 1774)and other nearby towns. Note - the 1710-1770 records for Fichthorst, just northwest of Elbing, are mistakenly under St. Annen Church, Elbing. I looked at those for family that lived in Hoppenau. My family names in Stuba/Zeyer area: Jahn, Baarwich, Likfett, Fidler, Glodd.

Hello,

I am looking for some info on my G G Grandparents.

I have extremely sketchy info:

What I have is this:

GUSTAV AFFELD(T) born Oct 29, 1841 to 1844 in Arnsfelde, Deutch Krone, West Prussia to Karl Ludwig AFFELD(T) & Marie SCHUELLER OR SCHNELLER.

MARRIED: betw 1860 & 1864 most likely in Arnsfelde or Berlin.

WILHELMINE SCHEWE born early to mid 1840's, most likely in the Arsfelde vacinity of Deutch Krone or Berlin.

DIED: betw: 1877 & 1879 either in Arnsfelde, Deutch Krone or in the Berlin area.

CHILDREN:

Louis AFELDT b.
Hello Gregory,
I came across this thread and wondered if your research panned out in the last 4 years. I have ancestors born in Stuba, Jungfer, and Elbing in the 1830s-1870s. I ordered the films for the Jungfer church (208169-71), but found nothing. Should I head for Furstenau or try a chuch in Elbing? Any hints on narrowing that down?

Thus far I have been unable to locate exact spot. I know he had a brother, Ferdinand who lived in Warsaw. He and his family went to Plotzk off the Black Sea about 1832. Family members left Plotzk in the 1877/78 for Dakota Territory. A few members stayed in Plotzk and returned to Germany after WWII.
My direct email is: rreimann@new.rr.com :
Ray Reimann

I am looking for any information on Arnold or his family (his father's name is Mathias). Also is there a good reference for history of that region in the early and mid 1800s? I am interested in learning political / social reasons for his immigration to the US.
Hello. Sorry, but my english is very bad. My great grand mother was Marta Brandenburger. She was born in Sliwice in 1893, near Junkerhof( Trzebciny in polish) kreis Tuchola near Bydgoszcz ( 400.000 population). Her father was Heinrich Brandenburger ( born in 1851 in ????), mother Justina Brugier born in 1863. She was second wife of Heinrich ( in polish Henryk). First wife was Susanna Kozlowska. Heinrich had children: Heinrich ( b. 1876), Susanna mathilda (1881)and Emilia (1879) with Susanna. Susanna died in 1882 and Heinrich got married Justina Brugier in 1882-children Marta (1893), Henryk 1881, Emil 1885. Heinrich died in ?? etc,etc

I have some informations about Brandenburgers, but my knowlege is incomplet. Brandenburgers were lutherans ( probably germans but they have mixted marriages with polish catholis), many churches books were wanished during SWW, but we have some informations. Look et PTG ( www.ptg.gda.pl). I have informations about Brandenburgers from Trzebciny: Johan, Christian, Michael. I have even skans from Churches Books. Please contact me: aor@gazeta.pl. Jar

Hello. I repeat: aor@gazeta.pl or bloodsucker73@wp.plXXXXXXX (of course without X)

It should bo good. I have info for you about Brandenburgers from Trzebciny. Brandenburger is correct, not Brandenburg. The oldest scans are from 1812r from Trzebciny, it would be interesting for you.
