I am searching for any information on my great, great grandfather, Charles Fabian. He immigrated to the US in 1872 at the age of 17. His fathers name is Johann Fabian and Johann's fathers name is Aaron. I have letters from this family but they have been translated and the names of the towns are probably not correct. They say Birdsong by Marienburg and Faultyard by Marienburg, West Prussia. If anyone has any information, I would love to correspond with them.

Kreis Schlochau - Parish Foestenau

18 March 2013 from Warren Forsythe
genealogy126 (at) fairpoint.net
-
Can't find hardly any listing of this Parish or villages in it:
Mrs. Hanks' final quote about Foerstenau Parish [West Prussia] lists towns
there which I also can not find in LDS catalog nor elsewhere,
except for Stegers: "names of towns in Forsentau Parish - Adlig Hutton,
Elsenau. Elsenauermuhle, Feldmark, Elsenau,
Elsenauermuhle, Forstenau, Gertzberg, Hutton, Karlshof, Kramsk, Kramskmuhle,
Moorhof, Marienhof, Nuesorge,
Peterhof, Peterhof, Richenwalde, Rittersburg, Rosenhof, Stegers,
Stegersmuhle."

+++++++++++++=
my compilation so far is posted at
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...

+++++++++++++++++

For now we are searching only Holznagel, not Troedel, as Mrs. Hanks feels
she knows most of grandparents of Laura Troedel,
plus many descendants of the uncles and aunts, and great-uncles and
great-aunts.
-
We suspect Holznagel family was Catholic, but have no DIRECT evidence.
Indirectly, I can't relocate the record now, but I recall compiling a
related USA marriage as Catholic,
-
Also Mrs. Hanks 10-20 years ago made this note on her paper family group
sheet about Martin Holznagel born 1856:
"Forstenau in Catholic District of Schlochau [Kreis]. Catholic records and
civil records are at Forstenau Kreis Schlochau."
-
Mrs. Hanks must not have used Salt Lake LDS records when she searched
Forstenau Parish,
because LDS FHL catalog has no entry under Forstenau or Foerstenau--
merely we indirectly find the name Foerstenau when we search LDS FHL catalog
for Stegers in West Prussia
"Mikrofilme aufgenommen von Manuskripten im Archiwum Państwowym, Słupsk.
Civil registration of births, marriages and deaths of Stegers, Westpreußen,
Germany; now, Rzeczenica (Człuchów), Koszalin, Poland.
Includes the towns: Förstenau, Gotzkau, Konitz, Steinforth etc. Text in
German."
-
But those 1874-1884 Stegers microfilms will probably not have very relevant
information because Mrs. Hank's notes say:
"Martin's parents died when he was young [after he was evidently born 16 Dec
1856 son of Johan/John Holznagel]
-he was raised by an aunt in Germany. He was in the military school at age
14, deserted,
and came to USA to a cousin" [Castle Gardens NY immigration record says aged
25; so a missing decade in midst of previous sentence.]
Mrs. Hanks continues "His brothers were Bruno, Matt, Philip, and John.
--Martin was the youngest. His sister ['oldest'] married [Rieck]/Reich." Mr.
Rieck in last email implied there were younger sister or two.
'Fischau, Post Altfelde' says, that Fischau was too tiny to have an own post office. This was in Altfelde. Both places, Fischau as well as Altfelde, were in the county (German Landkreis) of Marienburg, district (German Regierungsbezirk) Danzig in the province of West Pussia (Westpreußen) in the Kingdom of Prussia (Preußen). Since 1945 this area belongs to Poland. Therefore the names have changed: Danzig -> Gdansk, Marienburg -> Malbork, Altfelde -> Stare Pole, Fischau ??
Fischau was 4 kms from Altfelde, maybe today part of it.

my Abrams/Abraham were from Oxhoft, about 10+ mile northeast of Gdansk. My gr grandmother went by Abrams and her sister went by Abraham. There may have been other siblings who immigrated and as far as I can find he went by Abraham. They came into the US thru Canada went briefly to Milwaukee then to Michigan eventually settling in Alpena (the northeast part of the lower pennisula). Associated names with Abrams/Abraham are Reinke, Kunna. Let me know if you need any info that is pertinent to your search.

My bad! My grandmother's mother was Marianna Kurowska, daughter of Marianna Lewicka. But, Antoni Brozek was indeed my grandmother's half-brother. The picture I have of him with his grandparent's taken about 1904 was sent to me electronically by Jim Greene several years ago. Jim also sent me a translation of a letter that accompanied the picture. It was written by Anton Brozek and addressed to "Aunt Franciski" if I'm reading it correctly. I have an original of the picture of Anton in uniform; but, Jim Greene told me that he remembered seeing a copy of it once.

Antonio Brozek was my grandmother's (Anna Boguhn) half brother. As I understand it, his mother Marianna Lewicka, married my great grandfather, Franciscus Boguhn, after Antoni's father died. I have two photos of Antoni: one in a military uniform, and one with his grandparents (circa 1904).

I have him in my tree as a 3rd Great Grand Uncle, the son of Antonius (born about 1812) and Marianna Nowakowska Frankiewicz (born about 1817). He was the brother of my 3rd Great Grandfather, Joannes Silvester Frankiewicz born 26 Dec 1840 in Briesen, Marienwerder, West Prussia. I found the information regarding the parents on Family Search IGI. I have also recently found someone who has Joannes Silvester Frankiewicz as a common ancestor in their tree and waiting to hear back from them. You may email me at bjoiner@optonline.net. I have some photos of the later ancestors. It would be great if we might be able to compare.
best regards,
Barbara

Hello all Posters,
When I saw this post I jumped for joy!! I am also in the beginning stages of indexing the Kreis Rosenbert Evangelical records. My interest in several towns in the Kreis. I am currently in the process of scanning several films that I've ordered through the LDS. Some of the sames I am searching for are, Dzick, Jellonnek, Krohn, Gollan, Abromowski, Bentsch, Kukla, Markquardt, Tiefenbach, Klinger and more. The towns/villages are Melchertswalde/Makowo, Hansdorf, Sump, Froedenau, Freystadt and several more. As was stated in the earlier posts I don't want to reinvent the wheel either. I am hopeful that you would be willing to work together in this venture to make it easier for all who are searching in Kreis Rosenberg.

Anxiously awaiting a reply,

Trudy Krueger
He initially used the name Abraham but gradually changed it. I've never been able to find him before he immigrated and would like to know anything about families named Abraham/Abrams in Prussia. The family appears to have been Jewish but dropped the religion. They lived in Manhattan for many years though my gr-grandfather moved to Kansas City.

Yes, I understand now that the information on Adam Lukritz b. 1841 that is on the West Prussia site is a combination of information from the IGI and from Garnsee church books.
Hello Sara

It does not say, that "all" the information came from KB Garnsee, (Church book Garnsee). It only says, that the information about the marriage of Adam Lukritz and Auguste Radmacher comes from that churchbook (Marker Nr. 3)
The source of information of baptism (Taufe) of Adam Lukritz in Niederzehren on Sept.5., 1841 is marker Nr 2 Quelle (Source) is IGI-Germany ( International Genealogy Index) You find the information you see here on this westpreussen website also on LDS Family Search by searching batch number C999901 or directly searching for Adam Lukritz. It looks like someone else made already made the search about your Lukritz-line.
I did not find a search function to search for names in this website-forum. But I found some other entries from english speaking searchers. I Think it should not be a problem to ask you questions in that forum in english.Almost every german speaks english too.
If you have more questions, feel free to contact me again.
God luck
Klaus

I am the grandson of Fred G Volstorff, Elgin, IL. He is a son of Fredrick and Friedericka Goetzke Volstorff. They were married 4-17-1870. Fredrick was born in 1842 and she was born in 1850. He immigrated in 1866 and she in 1867. Between 1871 and 1890 they had 8 children. Fredrick had a brother C. Fredrick born in 1847. He was married to Henrietta burn in 1849. I think that is where your confusion about first name comes from. The two brothers Fredrick and C. Fredrick owned a meat market in Elgin that was then taken over by my grandfather Fred G and his brother Frank.

My grandfathers 2nd wife was Annetta Hopp (her first husbands last name) and I was wondering if that is a family
connection of yours.

Fred Vollman

Hello Klaus,
I read the films from Gross Tromnau and found nothing on the Lukritz and Rademacher wedding there.
However, I now think that I should be looking at films from Garnsee.
Are you familiar with the website
www.westpreussen.de
In the index of that website, there is a way to translate into English, and I found my Lukritz family.
Hello, my name is Aimee Kowell, I have been doing research on my family Kowalski, I was told that my families last name was changed to Kowell. I am sure immigrants changed their name to protect them. My family is from west prussia. I find the research on West Prussia very fasinating.
Yes, it looks correct to me.

I could not find information about online records.

Good luck for your search in the LDS-films

Klaus

Thank you, Klaus.
Okay, this is what I understand.

1. For Neudorfchen, try the church books of Gross Tromnau.
(I have marriage books from Gross Tromnau ordered from
LDS.)
2. For Ziegahnen, try the Garnsee church books.
3. For NiederZehren, I have found NiederZehren films at the
LDS website, so I will try them first. NiederZehren
information might also be in the Garnsee books.

Does this look correct to you?

P.S. If you or anyone else knows a way I can access any of these records online please let me know. The first thing I am going to do is wait until the Gross Tromnau microfilms arrive and I will try to get used to them. I appreciate your offer to help me. After that, I will order the microfilms from some of these other church books.

Thank you,
Sara

Hallo Sara
I assume, you again search for lutheran church books
Microfilms are available on LDS.
Zigahnen, sometimes also spelled Ziegahnen was newnamed in 1938 as Dietmarsdorf
Zigahnen, in district of Marienwerder /Westpreussen belonged
to lutheran/evangelische parish of town of Garnsee
Microfilms with baptism, marriages and death are available from 1634 to 1934. Search for Garnsee on LDS

Nieder Zehren, sometimes written Niederzehren in district of Marienwerder had an own lutheran church.Microfilms are available from 1801 to 1944. Search for Garnsee on LDS.

I took a look on an old map. It shows Neudörfchen, Niederzehren an Dietmarsdorf aka Zigahnen are located close to each other.
Nieder Zehren is nowadays in Poland called Czarne Dolne
Zigahnen is called nowadays Cygany
If you have problems with reading old german documents, feel free to attach them at your posts. Me and a lot of others here in this board are willing to help.

Klaus
