Can't find hardly any listing of this Parish or villages in it:
Mrs. Hanks' final quote about Foerstenau Parish [West Prussia] lists towns
there which I also can not find in LDS catalog nor elsewhere,
except for Stegers: "names of towns in Forsentau Parish - Adlig Hutton,
Elsenau. Elsenauermuhle, Feldmark, Elsenau,
Elsenauermuhle, Forstenau, Gertzberg, Hutton, Karlshof, Kramsk, Kramskmuhle,
Moorhof, Marienhof, Nuesorge,
Peterhof, Peterhof, Richenwalde, Rittersburg, Rosenhof, Stegers,
Stegersmuhle."
+++++++++++++=
my compilation so far is posted at
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...+++++++++++++++++
For now we are searching only Holznagel, not Troedel, as Mrs. Hanks feels
she knows most of grandparents of Laura Troedel,
plus many descendants of the uncles and aunts, and great-uncles and
great-aunts.
-
We suspect Holznagel family was Catholic, but have no DIRECT evidence.
Indirectly, I can't relocate the record now, but I recall compiling a
related USA marriage as Catholic,
-
Also Mrs. Hanks 10-20 years ago made this note on her paper family group
sheet about Martin Holznagel born 1856:
"Forstenau in Catholic District of Schlochau [Kreis]. Catholic records and
civil records are at Forstenau Kreis Schlochau."
-
Mrs. Hanks must not have used Salt Lake LDS records when she searched
Forstenau Parish,
because LDS FHL catalog has no entry under Forstenau or Foerstenau--
merely we indirectly find the name Foerstenau when we search LDS FHL catalog
for Stegers in West Prussia
"Mikrofilme aufgenommen von Manuskripten im Archiwum Państwowym, Słupsk.
Civil registration of births, marriages and deaths of Stegers, Westpreußen,
Germany; now, Rzeczenica (Człuchów), Koszalin, Poland.
Includes the towns: Förstenau, Gotzkau, Konitz, Steinforth etc. Text in
German."
-
But those 1874-1884 Stegers microfilms will probably not have very relevant
information because Mrs. Hank's notes say:
"Martin's parents died when he was young [after he was evidently born 16 Dec
1856 son of Johan/John Holznagel]
-he was raised by an aunt in Germany. He was in the military school at age
14, deserted,
and came to USA to a cousin" [Castle Gardens NY immigration record says aged
25; so a missing decade in midst of previous sentence.]
Mrs. Hanks continues "His brothers were Bruno, Matt, Philip, and John.
--Martin was the youngest. His sister ['oldest'] married [Rieck]/Reich." Mr.
Rieck in last email implied there were younger sister or two.
