DRAGON Family from Lower Silesia of Weidengut, Falkenberg Dist

I am looking for anyone with any information in regards to contacts that I may be able to use to track the family surname of DRAGON from Schlesien Prussien. This would include any contacts for any genealogy center dealing with Silesia. After WWII our family like so many others in the area was transferred across the Oder River and went on to settle in the Cuxhaven area of Saxony. The name is rare and any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Betty,
Do you have any more information about Bibianna Apfeld? I have a Catherine Apfeld in my tree that settled in Meeker county, Minnesota, and I don't have any more information on her family. She had a daughter Bibianna, but Bibianna Pechan was born about 1851 and I can not find any records for her after 1856. It just doesn't seem like Bibianna was a real popular name, so it just struck me as a possible connection since it does not appear that Apfeld was a very common name either.

Schulz from Sagan

I’ve hit a dead end tracing my Schulz ancestors in Silesia. Friedrich Ernst Schulz (or Ernst Friedrick, seems he later just went by Ernst) arrived in Chicago Illinois from Germany about 1885. When he married there in 1887 he claimed to have been born in Sagan, Schlesien and his father’s name was given as Friedrick Wilhelm Schulz. Aside from his birth date of Dec. 19, 1854 and a number of old photographs taken in Sagan of a couple of women assumed to be his sisters and possibly one of his mother, but with nothing written on the back to identify them, I have nothing else to go on. LDS has some birth records but they don’t have that particular year. Any other schulz from here out there.

Brzozogaj [bʐɔˈzɔgai̯] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Kłecko, within Gniezno County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland.[1] It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) south-east of Kłecko, 11 km (7 mi) north-west of Gniezno, and 44 km (27 mi) north-east of the regional capital Poznań. The village has a population of 100. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brzozogaj

Parish is Slupia, Poznan.
Allison,
congratulations on locating your family to silesia at least. it took me 10 years to do that! here are a few websites you might want to check out:
http://www3.adnc.com/~lynnd/gfaqm.html

http://wiki-en.genealogy.net/Schlesien

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermain...

there are a lot of resources out there. once you are sure you know the town, you can order the church and civil records on microfilm from the Latter Day Saints family history library. that is where i found a treasure trove of info about my Silesian ancestors. but the records I found only went back to 1800. the German and Latin script is not that hard to read. i did purchase a book by Edna Bentz that made it very easy to decode. and i speak some German so the language used was not indecipherable to me.

if i have some more time, i will see if i have any other good resources i can send you.

Best of luck!

Allison,
I could not find any records in the LDS library pertaining specifically to Jenkau. But it was a very small village.
I did find these church records from a town nearby in the same time period. They are "Evangelische" which is what Germans call the Lutheran church. Do you have any idea whether they were Lutheran, Catholic, or Jewish? It is possible they went to church in another town, but admittedly it is a longshot. Taufen is baptism. Heiraten is marriage, and Tote is death. You can order this film from your local LDS family library. but you may want to zero in more.

Title
Kirchenbuch, 1818-1846

Authors
Evangelische Kirche Groß Tinz (Kr.
When was your Mother born? My Great grandmother was Francesca Rosner who was born on MaY 31, 1865 in what I believe was Ober Leshan. Her parents were Simon & Mary Schreivogel Rosner. Her mother died and her father remarried. When he remarried Francesca left to come to the United States with the Johann Geibl Family and settled in the Calumet, WI area. We are not even sure of the spelling of Rosner because Grandma did not learn to read and write until after she arrived here. We know she left at least one sister behind. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

I have just checked my Family Tree Maker program, and I do not have any Geisslers from the area(s) you mentioned-I have been given to understand that Geissler is a fairly common name, so there may not be any connection. I have a couple of Geisslers from Leipzig and Gottingen (don't know if the spelling is right).
Sorry I couldn't help.
If you have information on your parents thats a good place to start-try to get birth certificates, death certificates as well as marriage license information, and work back from there. You also may try deeds of property and any wills. You might try talking to friends, neighbors and other relatives to see what they might know-a word of warning here-memories fade and facts need to be checked.
Where are you located? If you are in Germany it will be difficult because of documents that were destroyed during WWII. If you are in the USA, you can write letters to city halls-however, they may reply in German so be prepared to either translate or find someone who can. The World Wide Web is a good place to start, but be prepared to spend a lot of time at it.
Best of luck.
Diana

I am trying to find information on an Emilie Koch who immigrated to U.S. on Dec. 4, 1893, on the ship Suevia with Joseph and Marie Koch and their children Josephing, Pierre, and Leonie. She was 21 at that time. I thought it would be amazing if she were your Emilie who was the illegitimate daughter of Anna Koch. Anna MIGHT be Joseph's sister - the age is right. The only thing I know about Joseph's family is that his father's name was also Jos Koch. The ship passenger list says they came from Saaymund, which I'm thinking may have been Saarland, although some other paperwork I've found shows they came from Bliesbruck, which is 12 miles from Saarbrucken. I know you show Anna in Silesia, but that wouldn't be a great distance away - and either one of them could have moved for marriage purposes or work etc. Another thing I saw in your post was the similarity in the names Anna called her other children by Johann Laschke to the Koch family names in America.

One more thing - the Kochs arrived at Ellis island on Dec. 4, 1983, and came from there to Alton, Iowa. I can't find any further mention of Emilie.

KIEFEL Family - Silesia

Hello,
Can anyone help me?? I don't know where to start looking { and I can't read German} for my family from Silesia.
I am looking for information about
Gottlieb and Maria KIEFEL. They had a son { and possibly other children} Johann Gottlieb.
Johann Gottlieb KIEFEL b 1785 married Anna Rosine KANNBLEI. They had 3 children that I know of :
Caroline Augusta, Johann Samuel Hienrich b 1834 Jenjau Krei Liegnitz Silesia and Anna Caroline Louisa.
The family migrated to Australia in the 1850's. Johann SH KIEFEL married Johanna Christiana FIEGERT on 16.3.1860 and they had 11 Children { all in Australia}
I am looking for information abut this family but don't know where to start looking. Any help would be much appreciated.
Alison
Australia

Re: Kopschina name in Oppeln

There are just 14 entries for Kopschina in dastelefonbuch.de and as this is a German sounding name it is quite possible at least some of them (or their grandparents) were expelled from Oppeln, now Opole in Poland, in 1945 because they were Germans. It might be worth writing to a couple of them and see if anybody has any connection with your relatives. It would only need the cost of a stamp and the worst that happens is that you are ignored. Good luck.
