Thanks for the note. I think we may have a very possible link here. My paternal grandfather's name was John Cyran, born on 9/3/1888, in Dukla, Austria (part of the then "Austria-Hungary"). He died on 3-6-52 in Elizabeth, N.J. He arrived from Europe in New York, New York (name recorded as "Jon") on 10-19-1907. He arrived from Hamburg, Germany on the vessel "Pretoria." It is my understanding that my grandfather, John, had a number of brothers and sisters. It is of interest that my father is named "Edward Joseph Cyran". He may have received his middle name from a paternal uncle.
John Cyran married Julia Tabor after they both had arrived in the U.S.. Juila was born on May 12, 1890 in Garlice, Austria.
We've gone to Ellis Island to research the family tree, but unfortunately no information is available until the year 2000. At that time, they will have a database of all names of immigrants. We are also planning to search the database at the National Archives in Washington. Your response rekindles our interest in pursuing this research. We are very interested in your response to our additional information. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
