I am searching for information relating to Josef Tomczyk (or Thomczyk) who married Gertrud Koziara. Also, Karol Warecki who married Josephine Bureisa. All were born in Piekary Slaskie area around 1870 when I think the town was called Scharley and was part of Prussia. Thank you!

Maria, just so that you have accurate information, the town that is now known by the Polish name PIEKARY SLASKIE
(there is more than one Piekary in today's Silesia) was called in German DEUTSCH PIEKAR.

The nearby town that was called in German SCHARLEY is now known by the Polish name SZARLEJ.

Both towns are located near the city that was called in German BEUTHEN and that is today known by the Polish name BYTOM in Upper Silesia (in German: Oberschlesien).

SILESIA (in German: SCHLESIEN), the capital of which was the city of BRESLAU (now known by the Polish name WROCLAW), was a Prussian province until 1945, when almost all of Germany lying east of the Oder and Neisse Rivers
was given to Poland and the German population expelled.

Thank you, Robert. I am just beginning to research my Polish ancestors, and you have already made it much less confusing.

Marie, we corresponded before. Did you ever find thr birth of Josephine BUREISA or her marriage to Karol WARECKI? I do the BUREISA research from Boronow, Lubliniec, Katowice. I did look at one microfilm, but did not find Josephine. Who were her parents again? I lost all my previous messages to a virus, so I am trying to connect to people also researching the BUREISA surname.

Maria, have you found that BUREISA information from Piekary as yet? Do you have a LDS film number too?

It has been a month since we corresponded and I know how busy our lives are, but I have to ask again. I am trying to finish that branch of the BUREISAs.

Have you ever come upon the surname SUSALLA (SZULLA)?

Brzozogaj [bʐɔˈzɔgai̯] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Kłecko, within Gniezno County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland.[1] It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) south-east of Kłecko, 11 km (7 mi) north-west of Gniezno, and 44 km (27 mi) north-east of the regional capital Poznań. The village has a population of 100. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brzozogaj

Parish is Slupia, Poznan. Check the www.familysearch.org Library Catalog for availability of microfilms.

"MY" Piekary is quite a bit south in Silesia. There is another Piekary and those parish records are in Gniezno which is a rather large city and could have many films. I would start with Sw. Wawrzynca parish in that city.
