Using the IGI information about Samuel G. and the wonderful assistance of Cincinnati genealogists (see my later queries and replies) I have ascertained many facts about Samuel and his American relatives including pictures of their Cincinnati gravestones.
Regarding his birthplace, it may well be that it is Ca[m]min (or Kamin) in Silesia (somewhat near Dresden), in olden Prussia. I have not yet been able to prove this birthplace, but I am in the midst of so doing by studying LDS films on Germans arriving in America from Hamburg.
Search the IGI for Herman Grunauer - birth about 1810. This man is very likely the father of Samuel. For I was able to find Pauline Grunauer (his daughter) in Cincinnati with Samuel at the home of his older sister Fredericka in the 1870 census.
(to the extent that LDS-IGI information is correct, then this is likely the reality of his family. You may know that many IGI records are pure extractions from European registers, also many are not so assuredly factual.)
