I have been researching my Janke ancestors from the area of Okonek:
August Janke abt. 1820, Ratzebuhr (Okonek) married a Wilhelmina Janger(?) in 1854. Most likely they were Lutheran. August possibly died in 1869. Wihelmina remarried a August Pooch. The children below and Wihelmina immigrated to the US in 1882 through 1884. It's believed they went back and forth until all were settled - mostly in Joliet, Will, Illinois, USA.
Their children were:
Carolina Janke b. 2 Jan 1851, Pomerania married a William Fredrick Bruch
Carl Herman Janke b. 26 Apr 1855, Burzen
Wilhelm F Janke b. 23 Mar 1857
Herman W Janke b. 4 Sep 1859
Gustav Louis Janke b. 1861, Zamborst
Albert Julius b. 12 Sep 1865
Augusta b. 20 Mar 1868, Jastrowie
I would like any information on William Frederick Bruch. Additionally, I'd like to confirm that Carolina's father was August Janke rather than her step-father since her birth is listed as being EARLIER than the Janke marriage. Any other information you might provide would be greatly appreciated such as their occupations and what the circumstances were at the time for so many persons to have left the country in the early 1880s. I do have a very old photograph that may be of the Janke family.
Thank you,
linda
