My great grandfather, August Buss, b. 6 Dec 1843, married Friedericke Karow, b. 3 Oct 1845...they emigrated to Wisconsin, United States @ 1867. I recently discovered that August may have been born in Goss Benz, Naugard, Pommern, Prussia...his parents are Johann Friedrich Gottlieb Buss and Dorothea Louise (maiden name unknown). Can anyone help me locate Gros Benz? I think it may now belong to Poland, but not sure....

Thank-you!

Vicki

Vicki,

on this homepage http://www.ourwebpages.net/pommern_ws/map_table.html

click on map 16. Than you will see Groß Benz in second square from top of left side. Its written in shortform Gr. means Groß or Gross, means Great, or Kl. Benz, means Klein Benz means Small Benz. Groß Benz is nowadays in Poland, called Bienice.
When it was german, it was located in the province of Pommern (Pomerania )

Klaus,

DANKE, DANKE, DANKE!!!! My German is rusty, and I wasn't that good when it wasn't rusty...but thank-you so very much!!!!!

When I found the church records in Wisconsin last year, they had a place listed for Fredericke Karrow Buss birthplace as Maldovia, so that is my next location to find. I'm operating on the assumption that the 2 communities were not far apart.

Again, many, many, many thank-yous!!

Vicki Buss

Thank you
