Not much is known about the ancestry of Clovis as he was the king of the Salian Franks as Europe was falling into the Dark Ages. Clovis was the first Christian Frankish King though and created a family line which later formed the kingdoms of Austrasia (not to be confused with Austria) and Neustria, which were two kingdoms that often fought. The Kingdom of Burgundy, also a kingdom of Clovian descendants acted as the peacemaker. Later, Austrasia and Neustria, after many transformations became the kingdoms of France and the Holy Roman Empire.
