So I have two relatives born in 1820/1824 listed as being born in the Kingdom of Hannover. I looked up this kingdom and its rather expansive. The problem is that I cannot locate where exactly they are from. I know the year they left Germany but I don't even have a port of departure or arrival. One would think, based on ship logs, etc that going to Canada wasn't an every month deal but these two people were born, poof-- left Germany for Canada.
I am currently at a loss as to where my family is from in Germany. I wrote Hannover itself and they show no records or variants of last name at any time. I have some anecdotal family stories that puts the family in the region around Berlin and maybe a bit east in what is now Poland. However, short of multiple US Census lists, one Candian census, and a couple of voter lists, I have nothing to denote location of family. All these lists show Germany or Hannover or Kingdom of Hannover which is similar to saying planet Earth.
If anyone has some fresh ideas on how to locate Germanic origin, please let me know.
