My great grandfather was apparently fro Galicia (somewhere) as told by the 1911 Canadian census. Now when my dad was growing up, whenever someone called my grandfather Galician, he became furious. Because of this, no-one of his generation was willing to discuss family origin etc. Does anyone know why the mere mention of being Galician made them so angry? What is the story with pre-1900 Galacia. Any information, guesses, opinions, or even interesting thoughts would be appreciated. THanks.
