Does anyone know what town this is called now?

I found it here on this map http://feefhs.org/maps/ah/ah-galic.html

It is 3 blocks from the right edge and in the top row.

Knowing what town it is called now would help tracking down relatives that came from there. TIA!

The town you're looking for today is called Belza or Belz and located in the Ukraine, near the border to Poland.

You can easily find it on MapQuest:

By now you would know exactly where your Belz is via other offerings.
Just for your interest ( in short ) Belz, also known as Belza is in present Lvivska Oblst & is known by locals as Belz ( & is pronounced as such ).
Located on the fork of the "Zechecha & Solokia" rivers ( the Solokis river flows through the city of Chernonohrad to the East ) it is located in flatlands ideal for crops & grazing around the 200m above sea level.
The immediate area is ideal for Pine & Oak tree growths
It has its own railway station with a connection to Chervonohrad to the East & Poland to the West. etc etc etc etc etc
Dependant on what period you are researching:
During the Polish period ( between WW1 & WW2 ) Belz was in the District / Powiat Sokal in the Province / Wojewódstwo of Lwow with a population of some 4000.
During the Galician / Halychyna period Belz was in the Admin. District of Sokal, in the Gmina of Belz, in the Province of Galicia, Austria.
Considering the size of the location, it had its own Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic & Jewish Kehila during this period ( around 1900 ), so you can confidently note that any one of the 3 were used by your ancesters for worship & documentation dependant on their religious beliefs etc etc etc etc...

Wow, My ggf was born there in 1896, and left in 1913. I saw in some history I found how often this area changed hands. Amazing. Thanks for all your info!

To chase up geanalogical documentation in relation to birth, deaths, marriage or possible living relatives, suggest the following:

"""The LDS ( Latter Day Saints ) Church Family History Center may have microfilm church records for the place you are searching. They can be ordered and rented at a local FHC near you http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.a... """".

You will possibly need to contact the following for assistance to attain needs of certificates ( remembering that Baptism Certificates were issued as Birth Certificates in most instances during the Galician period ), it will assist if you know your ancesters religion to an extent:
Do not expect more than certificates from the Archives & RAHS, they do not follow up your family tree, they send certificates as requested by yourselves for a fee, you need to be precise, otherwise they may send others certificates & charge you for the service, even though they are not related ......... otherwise they offer a very good service.

In General, the average fee for an uncomplicated research does not exceed US$500 (excluding copy costs). Mirek,

are you researching your roots, looking for a distant relatives, what?

The Ellis Island website is listing 5 PRODZIEWICZs passing thru that port to America and Jan Franczisek Prodziewicz is from Belz. He was going to a friend : Jan Strusinski, Jersey City, NJ. He left in Belz a father Stefan Prodziewicz.

The Social Security Death Index
http://ssdi.rootsweb.com is listing Florence, John and Stella with social security numbers.

A Marek Prodziewicz lists in Linden, NJ phone book. Could he be your relative?
