Hi there again! I'm going to go through all these messages slowly and make notes so I have them organized in my head. SO MUCH INFORMATION!!!! This is just wonderful!
> the children were born in Canada; Bolgo... [sp?]
Balgonie, Canada. It's outside of Regina. I have a list of locations that everyone lived in. There's Pilot Butte, Regina itself, Moose Jaw and a couple of others (those are just off the top of my head). Anyway, they're all surrounding Regina. At the time of their arrival, Saskatchewan was still only the NW Territory, so that makes things interesting. I found that Martin was able to Homestead and get land (maybe you're the one that found it? I can't remember if I did or you) up there and it makes me wonder why he decided to move to Texas. Also, what did he do with the land? So many questions!
> Could the location be a Canadian's clerk's interpretation of Suszno ?
That's what I'm thinking. So far now I think we have a number of different names, but all are similar. It makes me think that the N we're seeing is actually a V or vice versa, as you say. If that's the case then they're all the same with different spellings.
pre-1901 Zabawa
1901 Luasno/Suasno
Between 1901 and 1920 Szuschawa
1920 Sushnouz/Sushnowz/Sushnovz
1963 Germany (no city; see attached death certificate)
Then we have Galicia and Austria and even Galicia, Austria, but there is another Ermel in the Regina area (there are so few Ermels there that I'm just about certain ALL are related somehow) that was naturalized in Canada who said he was from Poland. Also, we have Martin's death certificate that lists Germany as where he was born.
I also found this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighbourhoods_in_Regina,_Sask... (again, not sure if it was me or you, lol!) That first paragraph's last sentence says pretty much the same thing I was thinking. They ethnically considered themselves German.
This is just so confusing. I also wonder how much of a language barrier there was between them all.

That's an amazing tool! It's definitely going to get bookmarked. I see there is a Czech locality too. How much of that, if any at all, was part of Galicia? It's hard because I cannot find a map that shows layers of the area so I can see. It's almost like I have to map it myself.
I just appreciate you so much! You have no idea how grateful I am. Your research skills are simply amazing and I absolutely love the map you posted elsewhere in this thread. That is incredibly helpful as well!
