I just found this board and hope someone can provide assistance for 2 areas for me:
1. Where is Lisko, Galicia on a current map? Poland or Ukraine? My great grandparents' documents list their home village as "Lisko, Galicia". My grandmother told me that her family was Ukrainian but a) her mother's tombstone includes the words "Tu Spociya" which, I am told, is Slovene (not Ukrainian) for "here rests" and b) my cousin's husband (an ethnic Pole) told me that my grandmother's native language was Polish, not Ukrainian, as she always believed. At this point, I am not sure what country I should even start my research.
2. The following appears on an 1888 birth certificate. I may not have spelled everything correctly - some of the letters are difficult to read. The parents of Julianna (my great grandmother) are listed as follows:
Thomas Beca, agri, filius Johannis Beca et Mariae ustae Kotyk agri (indecipherable)
et Parascavia C'zchezyla filia Maximus Dynes et Parascavia Feszowsc
Is "C'zchezyla" a middle or maiden name? if a maiden name, why does it not match either last name of her parents? Are these names indicative of Ukrainian,Russyn/Polish heritage?
Where should I go from here?? Thanks for any assistance you can provide!
