A cousin and I are looking for any information on Zofia Gomulak who was born 16 Feb 1895 in Glebokie, Galicia.
She came to the U.S., we think, in 1913, from Hamburg. In Minnesota she married John Guminga who was born 3 Aug 1890, in Przemysl, in Galicia, and came to the U.S. about 1910.
Cousin Sandy has a CD that was given to her by a Gomulak relative from Northhampton, Mass.[?]in 2000, but cannot find.

We have no other information about Zofia's family in Poland.
Can anyone help us?
Thanks,
Liz and Sandy

Dear Liz and Sandy,

I think you'd want to check http://www.ellisisland.org or search Ellis Island via Stephen Morse's site or jewishgen.org

There I found a person indexed as Jofia Gomulak (mistranscribed as manifest itself reads Zofia) arriving on the ship the President Lincoln on February 17, 1911. This person is going to her brother, Jan Gomulak, in Minneapolis and coming from her mother's. It may well be whom you're looking for. Lots of information there if you think this might be her and then you could also check for this brother, Jan, at the site. There weren't many GOMULAKs in total so perhaps you'd learn something useful in checking all of them as they may or may not connect into your family.

Good luck,
Karen

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the tip. I did check Ellis Island, found Zofia and Jan and some other Gomulaks. The Jan Gomulak I found and listed his destination as Jan Buszek [or something real close to that], brother-in-law, in Alpha NJ, and Springtown, in NJ, I think. Some other Gomulaks listed a Thomas Gomulak, also in Alpha, NJ, and as a brother and brother-in-law. But I'll keep looking. I'm on a mission!
Are you a Gomulak descendant? I thought you might be, with the little info I gave you, and you led us to more Gomulaks!!
Thanks so much! I will be busy this summer, with Sandy being happy with any more info I can get. Her grandfather and my grandfather are brothers and we only met about 5 years ago, so we're catching up and learning about the family together. Hope to hear from you again.
Liz
