My distant family is from Boian, Bucovina; they emigrated to Canada in the 1890s/1900s.

There is a history book from 1930 that was exchanged between Boian, Bucovina, and the settlers of Boian, Alberta, Canada, that can be found here:

In which it states that the town was completely destroyed by fighting during WWI. The citizens were evacuated to Russia, as far as the Caspian Sea, and only some returned to re-build.

I'm wondering if anyone has been to Boian (now Boyan, Ukraine) or knows in what state the records are from there; if all of their records from before the war were lost, or if they know who returned / who stayed in Russia.
