The Slovak J is pronounced like English Y that is why the name change. It is all in pronounciation.

but only a female listing Jopkova lists in Divina and Skalite, nothing in the Stara Lubovna or the area around Circ and Ruska Vola. There is a spelling JOBKO with a listing in Circ's phone book.

The Ellis Island website is listing Janos JOPKO from Hsires (sp?) but looking at the manifest it looks more like Csircs.
