Our line of Frauens starts (most recently) with my husband's mother's mother:
1. Ida Metta Frauen born 6 May 1904 in Elmshorn, S-H
m. (Peter) Johannes Wischmann
2. (Jakob) Johannes Frauen born 14 Apr 1873 Herzhorn, S-H
m. Emma Margaretha Schilling d. 6 June 1897
3. Johann Frauen b 13 May 1835 m 1861 to Metta Doelling
raised by paternal grandparents
(we think it is because his father Johann Friedrick
Frauen born 1815 went to jail the same year he was born)
at least, family legend says so and there is a record
of a Johann Friedrick Frauen going to jail in 1835 -
in the same town as our Frauens; we do not know who his
mother was except that her first name was Margaretha
4. Johann Friedrick Frauen b. 1815 (in jail at birth of
son);
4. Jakob Frauen born 1783 in Herzhorn, S-H; m. 1828 to
Gesche Wulf born 1799 in Sommerland (near Suderau) and
died 1870 in Herzhorn
5. Jakob Johann Frauen born 1750 in Suederau, S-H
m Margaretha )Steffen?) born 1760 d. 1801
Most of this line I have from my mother-in-law's family records. But I have checked them against the Schleswig-Holstein census records for 1795, 1803, 1834 and 1842 as well as the "Gauner" (petty criminal) records of the prison in Elmshorn/Itzehoe. I have many other Frauens who most likely are related to our ancestors, but have not put them into the computer or my databank yet. They are all stored in a box in the basement. When I get back to that side of the family, I will look for a connection to your Margaretha and her father Johann. It seems likely that our families are connected. The other surnames that appear in the Frauen side of the family include Wischmann, Schilling, Doelling, Wulf, Mohrdieck, Mohr, Peters, Jansen, Kuehl, Luebbe, Haack, Magens, Everts, Engelbrecht, Glashof, Wohlenberg, Hesebeck, Meinert, Kluever. My husband's maternal grandfather was a Wischmann and they also came for generations from S-H (near Suederau, Itzehoe, Neuendorf, Elmshorn, Hohenkamp, Bloemsche Wildnis, Herzhorn, Glueckstadt). If any of these surnames are familiar to you, please contact me for more information.
