Ida:
According to information in the book "Pennsylvania German Pioneers," by Strassburger & Hinke, I think that my first ancestor in North America was Johan Jacob Huth, born ca.1718, shown as a "Palatine" imported on the ship Loyal Judith, from Rotterdam to Philadelphia. He was "qualified" (i.e., took an oath of allegiance to England) in Philadelphia on September 2, 1743.
There are three rosters of the passengers on that ship, apparently done by different people as in some cases the names are spelled differently. The following, that may be of interest to you, are listed:
Friederich Fiechgus (also spelled Friderich Fischkus), age 36
Gerhart Fishkus (also spelled Gerhard Fishkus)(age not shown)
The reason I am checking other passengers on Johan Jacob Huth's ship is to try to find where he came from in the Palatinate. If the above two passengers are related to your ancestors, do you know what town or city they came from? How did you determine the place of birth for Gerhart "Garret" Fischkus?
Johan Jacob Huth went from Philadelphia to a German community in or near Bethania (now Winston-Salem), North Carolina, and married. In about 1762 the family moved to what is now Yadkin County, North Carolina. He was a farmer and part of the farm is still in our family.
Thanks for any information furnished.
