My ancestors were from the Sinzig/Remagen area. I have documented them there until the 1870's from Catholic Church records. I know from there they moved into Bonn and further north, into places like Duisburg, Witten and Bremen.

I'd like to continue my research using civil records, but I don't know what I'm getting myself into.

How difficult is it do what I want to do? I'd like to go to Germany to do this properly, but I don't think my German is good enough to do by myself.

How difficult is this to do? Are there German locals who might be able to help with this research?
