Yes, one is always torn about responding to meaningless queries, especially since submitting meaningful queries is kind of how a message board works.
Having submitted all of 3 previous posts to Rootsweb/Ancestry's message boards, I'm sure you're already familiar with how to write a meaningful query, but for others who may be reading this, meaningful queries generally contain Who, What, How, When, Where:
Who, specifically, are you seeking information about?
What information are you seeking?
What information have you already obtained?
How have you obtained that information?
When did the person(s) live?
Where did they live?
Queries that omit this vital information are imposing upon the good will of those who are tempted to respond. For example, failing to specify what information you're seeking or failing to reveal information you already have and the sources you've searched leads respondents on wild goose chases. This is especially irritating to those kind souls who spend time submitting information, only to be told, "Oh, I already have that."
