My family is from this area - Bakum Oldenburg. My dad is Robert Loman, son of William Moore Loman, son of William Smeltzer Loman, son of John Bernard Loman who died in Harpers Ferry, WV in 1889. He was born Johann Bernard Lohmann in 1817 in Bakum Oldenburg Germany to the parents of Joseph Lohmann and Elisabeth Backhaus. Any connections??

Hi,
I`m doing a lot of family research since many years and have
a lot of data of the Horstedt families. There is actually no
link to the Backhaus`, the Lohmann`s are a different story,
which I`m still researching, as there are a lot in this area.
I know from my father-in-law, who knew your grandfather,
that he emigrated to the US.
What is have is the following:
1. Heinrich Friedrich Backhaus died at the age of 48
on Nov. 17, 1922 and was burried in Horstedt Nov. 20, 1922
As far as I know he died after illness due to injuries in
World War 1 he suffered in Russia.
Some time ago I read (if I remember right) in the Sottrum
parish records that he was born in Rotenburg (son of
a shoemaker ?) and married Anna Metta Lohmann.
Together they ran the farm Anna had from her parents.

2. Anna Metta Lohmann died in Horstedt on April 10, 1949
and was burried April 13, 1949 in Horstedt.
After the death of Heinrich Friedrich Backhaus she married
Hermann Hoops (they seperated or divorced later).
Hermann died on Oct. 7, 1959, burried Oct. 10, also
in Horstedt. I still remember him, he was living his last
years in the neighbourhood of my parents.

3. Heinrich Friedrich Backhaus and Anna Metta Lohmann
had, apart from your grandfather, two more sons.
The youngest one, Johann Hermann was born on
March 14, 1915 and died the same day (burried March 17).

Heinrich Backhaus was born on May 22, 1912. He married
Marie (I don`t know her maiden name), who was born
Aug. 9, 1914 and died on July 9, 2000 (Heinrich died
on Febr. 23, 1986). They operated the family farm
and had 1 son (Cord) and 2 daughters (Monette and Gunda)
Both, Cord and Gunda are living with their families here
in Horstedt.

Since you posted your family search already 4 years ago
I don`t know, if this is still helpfull or not. Sorry, I just
saw it by chance when I was surfing on rootsweb.com.

If you need more, just let me know it. If you want me to
get you in contact with Cord or Gunda Backhaus, no
problem, I know both families quite well.

Best regards from Horstedt !!

Surnames: Lohmann, Rehbock
Hello,

the last post here was 6 years ago, but I'll try my luck!

I am interested in Christoph Lohmann from Horstedt. I believe he was born in about 1845. At some stage he moved to England. He married my GGG Grandmother Rebecka Rehbock in England (she's from Rockstedt near Selsingen), but he died when he was only 25 in London.

Rebecka remarried and one of the children from the 2nd marriage is my line. Nonetheless I am still very interested in any Lohmann family history from the Horstedt area and if there is a link to Christoph.

Thanks,

Luke
