Looking for information about the ancestors of Herman Hamers bd 1836, who was born in Steinbild or Dersum in "Hanover"; these two villages are in the River Ems area of Neidersachen. Parents were Agazzi or Gerhard Hamers and Theckla Griessen/Griesen.
Herman immigrated to St Louis, MO, in 1859, from Bremen to New York, and later settled in Davenport, IA. He was married twice, first to Theckla Frekes/Ferkes (in 1862), and after her death in 1872, to Margaretha Holthaus from Wertle, Germany.
Have been unable to get any information about Herman in Germany. Would be glad to share information with anyone who is searching for this ancestor.
Herman may have had a sister named Theckla Hamers bd 1834, who immigrated to the St Louis area in 1854; she married John Peter Bachman in Davenport. Also, there may have been another sister, Margaretha Hamers. But have not proved these relationships yet.
