Surnames: WINKEL WINKLE WINCKEL
I am looking for any information on the Winkle/Winkel line on my late grandmother's side. The information she left me was incomplete, and she may have had her spelling/dates wrong:

Wilhelmina Winkle, b. abt 1845/1857 in Strelitz or Mecklenburg, Germany (the family supposedly emigrated in 1864). She married Henry Frederick Frerking b. abt 1840/1855 of Hamburg, Germany. They probably married somewhere in Illinois. One child was Herman William Frerking b. 12 Mar 1875 in Hinsdale, Du Page, IL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a christening document for Heinrich Wilhelm Johann Simon. The parents are Friedrich Simon and Friedrika Winkle. The birth took place in Fullersburg, Du Page, Illinois, August 24, 1878. Do you suppose there is a connection?

Please contact me. Thnx
Cheryl

Lorraine,

I went back and looked at the christening document that I have and noticed what appears to be Henry Frerking listed next to the German word 'Die tauf_athen waren...';and since I don't read German I don't know what that means There are two other mens names listed after Mr.Frerking Wilhelm Linstedt, and Johann Reek/Reeh?

You mentioned that the information you had indicated a Herman William Frerking b. 12 Mar 1875 in Hinsdale, Du Page, Illinois. My guess is that your ancestors and mine were about the same age and perhaps were friends. Or maybe Wilhelmina and Friedrika were sisters since they were both Winkels.

Please respond.
Thnx
Cheryl

Hopefully, you are still at the same e-mail address. I have information on the two people you're looking for and their descendants (down 4 generations). To begin with:
Wilhelmina Winkle, b: 22 Jun 1847 in Meckelnberg, Stralitz, Germany who married on 12 Mar 1869:
Henry F Frerking, b: 02 Feb 1833 in AusChen, Germany

Let me know if you would like more information.
