We have tracked our great grandfather, Ernest (Ernst) Charles Oemcke, to Schwerin in Mecklenburg but we would like to know his date of birth (possibly around 1841) and his parents' names. Ernest left his homeland while very young, and could have "run away to sea" in his teens, as he came ashore in New Zealand, and was married here in 1869. There is mention of him in the area in 1853, which would make him about 12. It would be nice to know if there are any relatives still in the area of Schwerin.
