I just found a record of my Great Grandfather listed in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin 1867 Census. This identifies the place of residence as Techentin, district Grabow-Eldena. Christ's wife's name was Caroline. I also learned that his mother's name was Caroline as there were two "Carolines" listed in this census one was 60 and the other was 23. Christ was 30 at the time, which matches pretty close to his known date of birth. So, I'm pretty certain this is my Great Grandpa's information. I understand there are two Techentins, so this would be the one in the district Grabow-Eldena. I suspect if I can find a church document on them, I will be able to determine if they spoke Hochdeutsch or Plattedeutsch. My dad always said his family spoke Hochdeutsch. I wonder about that. How can I find any church records for them (birth, marriage, etc.)?
