Between 1855 and 1859 William & Hubert Manns along with Elizabeth Kruse immigrated from Kassel, Germany and settled in Alton, Illinois. William & Elizabeth were married and stayedin the Illinois area. Hubert married Catherine Dellernman and settled in southern Missouri.

A descendant of William Manns in Illinois, Lena Manns was corresponding with relatives still in Germany as late as 1925.
This was a girl named Hedy Huther and from Johausas Huther, William Mann's brother-in-law.

Does anyone have any information on any of these people?

An important question: Were these people from the city of Kassel itself, or from another city, town or village somewhere in the state of Hesse-Kassel, of which the city of Kassel was the capital? (Like the U.S., Germany has always been made up of states.)

William Manns, Hubert Manns and Elizabeth Kruse were from Kassel. They left their parents behind when they left Germany. It was said all three were children when they left, however, William was probably a teenager or very young adult. The Manns from Germany who corresponded with Lena Manns in Illinois in 1924/1924, Hedy Huther and Johausas Huther, were from Kassel - their address was Kalnisch Strasee 71, Hessen Nassen, Kassel, Germany. Hedy's mother was a sister to William Manns. The Manns family owned a chain of grocery stores in Kassel.
I made several attempts to contact Manns family member in Kassel but received no response.

I am a descendant of Magdalena Manns. She lived in Jerseyville, IL, not far at all from William's family. Although we have no hard proof I'm aware of, most people in our family that care are of the believe that William was Magdalena's brother. It may be worth noting that Magdalena had 2 sons consecutively named Hubert and Wilhelm, and that William's oldest daughter was named Lena (I assume short for Magdalena). Anyone from the Manns family is encouraged to contact me.
