The LDS refers to the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints or the Mormon Church. They have microfilmed Church records all over the world. If you know a town or village that your ancestors came from you can search their library catalog to see what's available. The website is familysearch.org. You could also visit a Family History Center for help in getting started.
