my grandfather charles frederick johnson/johnsen was born in hamburg germany 1874-1876 he came to england in 1901 and married my grand mother maria his father was named fred or frederick he was sent back to germany when ww1 was over but came back to england to be with my grandmother he may have visited family in this time would like to find relatives

My great great grandmother was Maria Katherina Von Bokern who was the sister of those mentioned in your post. She married Friederich Ludwig Vonderhaar and settled in Louisville, Ky.

I would like to find information about my g-g-grandfather Louis Baum, who was born in 1868 in Germany and emmigrated to New York in 1885. Louis was married to Bertha Lippman (born 1869,emmigrated 1889). They had 2 children, Irving and Jeanette.

I believe, but am not certain, that Louis was the son of Joseph Baum and Amalia Mayer. I'm not sure if they ever came to America.

I found a picture in my grandmother's closet. It shows a picture of a store "Pecklow & Groskopf" and in front of it a float with two tubs, a couple of sinks, and a toilet. Thee sign on the float says "Pecklow & Groskopf Plumbers, Gas & Hot Water Fitters." Was your grandfather Frank Groskopf in that business?? Please email me, at Barke009@uwp.edu

Ships captain Peter or Jacob Köpke

These men were father (Jacob) and son (Peter). Peter was a captain in the Hamburg Harbor. They originally came from Borstel where Jacob worked. Peter later migrated to Hamburg.
I would like to find the name of their ships. Jacob died in 1815, and Peter died in 1876.

I am from Dyersville Iowa where you will find a large number of Burkles. Dyersville is a farming community located 25 West of Dubuque and home of a Field of Dreams. Actually many Burkle decendents farm near there.

I have the Burkle's going back 1787 in Germany with Melchoir Burkle at a shoemaker. They were from Trilfingen, Hohenzeollern. I believe in Germany the name was Burkhle and the h was dropped (I think over there). The area where they came from was ruled by fiefdom and I believe Ralphael excaped with his brother Markus and Felix and came in 1849. Ralphael was instrumental in building the Catholic Church in Dyersville and was skilled at the piano and was also a teacher.

I don't think the SD family you mention is of this lineage. I posted the Ahlborn/Thiele history a number of years go, but the Mary Ahlborn link is as far back as I knew at that time... I did however, have a complete tree up until about 2003 or so. Since that time, Michael Thiele has been working on it, as well as Oscar F. Sandstrom, both cousins of mine. There were a couple of August(us) Thiele individuals and the one you show above IS my great-grandfather, married to Mary Ahlborn born 25 Feb. 1845 in Berlin, Brandenburg, Germany, died 12 July 1923 in Owatonna, MN, and buried in Degner Cemetery, Pratt, MN. Their first child was also August(us) John (called Gus) Thiele, born 8 Feb. 1866 in LaCrosse, Wi, married to Libbie Sholes. If you search Ahlborn/Thiele, you will find this file on Rootsweb.com.

Nothing further back than him that is not already posted on rootsweb.com under the file name of Ahlborn/Thiele. Mike Thiele in International Falls, MN, is my second cousin. My Mother and his father were cousins... my Mother was the daughter of William and Jennie (Larkin) Thiele. William is a brother of his grandfather...maybe we are third cousins! But we're cousins!

My g-grandfather was Julius Koss. Lived in Bay City and then Detroit. Had a tailor shop. Lived with my grandfather Ferdinand Koss until his death.

I reviewed the Ahlborn/Thiele tree in Rootsweb. I've never used Rootsweb before, but it seems to me that it doesn't contain my immediate family. I know that once they immigrated they lived in the NYC area, primarily in Newark, and according to family lore, Staaten Island. Again, lore, says that they had a bar/restaurant there. Mom said that the wonderful linen dish towels I used up not too long ago were leftovers from the bar. Nana said that Rudolph had a brother Richard with whom she lived when her parents died. Richard probably lived on Staaten Island. Richard was a tailor. I have a photo of him and his wife in front of the shop where he worked.

My Rudolph is my great grandfather. Rudolph Thiele's daughter, Flora was my maternal grandmother.

Well how about that. August Friedrich Elske is my Great Great grandfather. He had a son called Johan Friedrich who lived in Benoni during the First World War and due to anti German sentiments at the time Anglicised his name to John Frederick and subsequently left to settle in the then Rhodesia where they become sucessful tobacco farmers. His son (my Grandfather Frederick George) stayed behind in South Africa.

Sorry about the E.. the church marriage document for a daughter spelled it with two 'e's.. The parents were listed as Oscar Grant and Helene Elizabeth Weddige(e). I cannot find naturalization records. Helene and baby came to USA from Hamburg on the Westphalen June, 1884, landing in NY. I know they had babies all the way to Tennessee and one in Alabama. I have not found any records from any states and I hoped to find German information of her leaving Hamburg.
