My great grandfather, Charles vonPeyn immigrated to New York in the late 1850s. His father was Hartwig vonPeyn. Family lore says he was from Altoona.

Est. birth 1844 Germany, and so were parents born there as well as Maxwell Held Hill born Sep. 8, 1869, Dick and Paul, b. Oct. 16, 1879 Elizabeth was born in Paterson, NJ. on Sept. 3, 1883, and she died in Canby, Oregon May 18, 1975. She was married to Louis Backman. Elizabeth and Paul Held were in the Paterson Orphan Asylum at 500 Market St. from March 11, 1887 to March 22, 1890.
Maxwell married Martha E. Heisse est. 1900 and had daughter born and died Jan. 2, 1902 and buried as Baby Hill at Hackensack, NJ. Cemetery, and Emily Hill Huebner b. Dec. 7, 1903 and d. Apr. 15, 1981 in Oregon. Her mother Martha Heisse was married to Conrad Charles Freudemann Freideman est. 1886.

My great-grandmother was Eleanora Held who married Charles vonPeyn in New York City in the 1870s.
She died in 1920 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. I believe that she had a sister. That's all I have so far, but I have just started researching my mother's side of the family.
