I have obtained a letter written by Herman Josesph Wetegrove who sets forth the Wetegrove Family originating from Assel. He describes a church there and a pew which has 3 popular trees which was carved around 1600. This is the "family emblem".

The letter reflects the following:
1.Jourgen Wetegrove and wife, Martha (maiden name unknown) married in 1694 and had the following child: Henrich Wetegrove born May, 1704 and died 16 April, 1762.

2. Henrich Wetegrove married Alfriede von Borstal 17 Dec 1730 and had the following child: Hinrich born 1733;

3. Hinrich Wetegrove married Florence Hollander in 1767 and had the following children: Peter born 1768; Anna born 1770; Infant daughter born 1776 and Johan born 15 May 1779.

4. Johan Wetegrove married Katherina von Holt 15 Jun 1838 and had the following children: Rebeca Marie born 8 Mar 1841; Emielie Friederiche born 3 Feb 1843, Johan Ferdinand born 11 Aug 1845.

5. Johan Ferdinand Wetegrove married Adeline Oltmann in 1867 and had the following children born in Altenbruch Land Madein, Hannover: Adolph born 12 Aug 1868, Herman Henry born 26 Dec 1869 (he is my great grandfather who immigrated to the USA, Infant born 1871, Infant born 1872, Johan Ferdinand born 5 Aug 1874 immigrated to USA and died in Austin Texas 13 Apr 1898; (children born in Hannover) Oswalt born 1876 died in Hamburg 1880; (children born in Hamburg) Infant Anna 1882 and Hilda 24 Jul 1884.

I would really appreciate any additional information pertaining to the Wetegrove family members listed and if there are people who are not listed.

I am also interested in information about Assel.

Most sincerely submitted,
Theresa McKinney
