The web site you suggested, I have been to in the past. Must be the blond in me but, I find it somewhat confusing at best. I will go back to it though....
Thanks for the information regarding the surname Carstens in reference/comparison to the surname Jones. You have probably saved me a lot of valueable time in my research. You are correct about my great grandfathers mothers maiden name...in that it is a guess...the writting is hard to decipher.
The certificate I have regarding my great grandparents marriage is from the New York City Archives They were married at the Mariner's Church...which I think is still in existence in Manhattan. Charles/Karl at some point became a fireboat captain for the City of New York so perhaps that was the affiliation with that particular church at the time. His children and grandchildren all attended St. James School and Church in Manhattan though
