My grandfather's twin sister, Pearl McAninch, married William Erbst of Buffalo, Iowa. Pearl was born around 1889.
Their children were Fred, Lola, John and maybe more that I don't know. I'd like to see if any of this Erbst family is still around. I don't have any pictures of my Aunt Pearl.

With a name as uncommon as Erbst you'd think there'd be a match but, unfortunately, none of my family is or was from around the Iowa area as far as I know. Based on the number of Erbst's in the Social Security Death Index there are apparently quite a few of 'em in Iowa. A William Erbst of Buffalo, Iowa shows up there.

Good luck in your hunt.

Thanks for answering Howard. William Erbst was my grandfather's twin sister Pearl McAninch's husband. The children I know about are Fred, Johnny and Lola. I don't know if they married or had children. Joyce

I went to school with a Leota Erps in Green Acres which was a small town North of Davenport but is now part of Davenport proper. I know there were Erpse families there in the fourties.

Hey, please email me! fnja@uaf.edu. My grandfather was Earl McAninch. His twin sister was Pearl Leota McAninch, who married Bill Erbst! One of their children may well have named a child "Leota" after her grandmother's middle name. Any information would be appreciated. I know it was a tradition in the family, because my mother 's maiden name was Edith Leota McAninch. Joyce Allen-Luopa

I asked my sister if she would remember any more about this family. She says she saw Leota on a bus In Davenport Iowa years ago. You mightr try the white pages under the family name in davenport to get someone local who might be able to help you.ap

Thank you so much for going the extra mile to give me some additional information. I truly appreciate it. It's not been an easy search. I finally found a picture of my grandfather's sister Pearl Leota (McAninch) Erbst. If I find descendents, I'll be happy to share a copy of the pictures I have. Joyce Allen-Luopa

Joyce,
I remember my father speaking of visiting the "Buffalo cousins" occasionally.

Dad's father was Vernet Henry Carl Erbst, his father was Henry Erbst, brother was Carl Erbst.

My stepmom may still have addresses for some Buffalo cousins. I'll ask her if you wish.

Annette

Annette, Please! I have some small memories of my grandfather's twin sister Pearl Leota McAninch (Erbst). Aunt Pearl lived in Buffalo , IA with her husband, 2 sons (Johnie and Fred ) and daughter Lola. I have a couple of pictures of Aunt Pearl, including one of her with her twin brother Earl (my grandfather). I have a picture of her with a young baby which I believe was Lola's daughter. But they are all gone now to the best of my knowlege. If there are any descendents I could share information with, I'd be happy to do that. Please ask your mother. Thanks
