Hi!
My name is Kristen Slice. I'm looking for any information regarding my ancestor, Conrad Amick. He left Northern Germany with his wife, and young son. They boarded a boat "Upton" with Captain Gardiner in Holland. The ship landed on the Ashley River of Charles Town, South Carolina in 1752. Prior this, there is no information. Any help is greatly blessed.
We don't know the name of Conrad's wife or birth/death dates. We believe this is the beginning of our family line in the USA.

Your research should really begin in the US by obtaining all of the information you can about the family, including birth records, marriage records and death records. The religion they practiced will help you determine where you should be looking for these church records which should give you more detailed information than the ones compiled by the county or state.

Ellis Island did not become an entry point for immigrants until 1892. Prior to that date, they would have landed at Castle Garden.

1900 US Census
Ward 5, Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri

Bimberg, Frederick, Head, b.
Hello,

My name is Angela Marie Woolsey. I am trying to find out information on my great-great grandparents. Their names were Fredrick W. and Eliza/Elise Bimberg. They immigrated from Germany somewhere around 1884 and arrived in Ellis Island. Fredrick worked as a tailor in Kansas City. He and my great-great grandmother had six children: Alma, Wn (William?), Dora, Frieda/Fredia, Roy and Elsie. Frieda is my great-grandmother and married a Mr. Eugene Woolsey.

The information above I received from my grandfather, Fred Eugene Woolsey. I am trying to find out more about who my great-great grandparents are, where in Germany the came from and finding possible relatives.

Re: Garke/Gaerke Surname

Hi Jason,

I have been trying to get a hold of you. Looking at postings that you have posted has ensured me, that we are related! I believe that we are second cousins. My father Steve Gaerke who is the son of Harold Gaerke (1919-2002) (my grandfather) and is the brother of Herbert Gaerke (1916-1998) (your grandfather). They are the son of Henry Gaerke (1889-1970) and Anna Fullenkamp (1893-1970). Henry Gaerke is the son of Heinreich Gärke (1840-1913). So I know we are related.
However I must have different data concerning Heinreich Gärke (1840-1913) and/or Diederich naturalized than what you have. To me, it sounds like you believe Diederich and Heinreich is the same person. My data points differently. From what I can gather you have a letter from Diederich Gärke dated 10/07/1838, two years before Heinreich was born (1840-1913). You believe he immigrated here from Hanover, Germany (Prussia) about 1864. Than you have Heinreich possibly getting naturalized about 1880's? That doesn't make sense to me if I understand correctly, because the letter is dated before he was born. Otherwise, maybe I am just misunderstanding your posts.
I do not believe Heinrich and Diederich is the same person, because the dates do not match up. If that letter is from our ancestor, which I believe it is, than Diederich would have to be Heinreich's father. I have found two different documents that have Diederich Garke purchasing 80 acres on 10/10/1840. Lets compare data.

Leo Gaerke
LGaerke@yahoo.com

I was reading throught the Harton message board at Ancestry.com when I came accross one of your messages. I know it was dated 1998 but I was wondering if you are still researching the Hartung's (Harton's). I know you probably don't know who I am, but if you are Maurice Bouchie, Jr, than I am your cousin. My mom is Margaret Jean Harton Dieter. I only have the Hartung's as far back as you do (Jean Hans Hartung m. Angelique Martin). Felix's wife, Marie-Angelique Gauvin, I have going back to the first Gauvin in Canada (Jean Gauvin who married Anne Magnan in Oct 22, 1665). One source stated that Anne Magnan was a 'Fille du Roi' (marriageable maidens sent to New France / Canada to marry single colonists. I guess you can say, they were sent there to be "fruitful and multiply").
Well, if you are still involved with tracing our family tree and can pass any information on, that would be great. I do have copies of Memere's and Pepere's Naturalization papers and Soc. Security records, but I am sure you probably have them too. What I would love to have is any pictures you might have of them. I have absolutely no pictures from my mother's side of the family (the Harton's).
Thanks,
Tracy
Hi Chris,
family historian, Gertrude Hartung Baier wrote "The home of Conrad and Magdalena was in Fronakfort on the Mein, which is in Hessian".
How close she is to the truth, I don't know. This Conrad and Magdalena (nee Feuster, Finstra or Sinstra) had several children: Adam, William and Carl immigrated to Wisconsin, Adam, my ancestor, in 1866. Frances, Mary and Elizabeth (or Eliza) stayed in New York State. Jacob was a brother, too.
I haven't heard anything about a Philip.
Thanks for your inquiry and if it resonates, let me know.
Gail von Bargen

I am looking for information about my ancestors. I am the great-granddaughter of John Joseph Haupt and Anna Mary Hauberhauer who immigrated around 1899 from Zwittau, Austria in the German-speaking area of what is now the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, at this time, I don't know much about John's family. I do know that he was born around 1869, but I don't know where. I'm not sure even where to look. I have a copy of his naturalization papers, but it only lists his and Anna's children and his daughters, Pauline and Mary, from a previous marriage. (They remained in Austria.) Do you have any suggestions or anything that might link our families? I would greatly appreciate anything you have to offer. Thanks!

Lois Haupt

Palatinates to America

For the individuals who are interested in the surname Reidenbach and its varies spellings try searching for the Palatinates who came to America during the early years 1700's to about the years 1764. You will find a number of ships and the names of the passengers on them. For example there is listed a Henrich Reidenbach and wife Anna Appolonia Reigels who sailed on the Glasgow Sep. 9, 1738.
Christian Reidenbach arrived in Philadelphia 3 Dec. 1740 from Rotterdam by way of Cows,Captain Walter Goodman.
On the ship Lydia, September 20, 1743 the passenger list shows Johann Nickel Reidenbach,& Johann Michel Reidenbach. On the ship Richmond, October 20, 1764 Michel Reidenbach, Peter Reidenbach and Johsnn Nickel Reidenbach are listed as passengers probably from Weisenheim am Sand. There are also group of Reidenbach Mennonites who lived in Pennsylvania.

My father was from Rohatyn Ukraine, where ther are a lot of Andrejciws, some closely others distantly related. The w at the end of the family name in speach was vocalized due to the local galician dialect spoken more like a "u". We had relatives accross from N.Y. City in northern New Jersey.

Hi Stacy,
Silke, Sylke is normally a female christian name in northern Germany, Danmark and Sweden. It is said to be the short form of Cecilia (Cil-ke). The -ke is a diminuitive form like "little" Cecily.
In the Netherlands I've seen the name Silke as a term for sewing yarn (quite likely derived from "silk"). Maybe your family lived close to the dutch border and your family name has a connection with sewing?

Hi Bertha. We are from German decent as you know. Paul Lodewyk(Ludwig) Sieszmann came to Cape town in 1771 as a soldier from a place in Germany called Stolpe (Wes pruise) >Pommerania as it was known in the old books and history. Stolpe was given to Poland after what happened in the 2 world war and is known as Slupks today. You can Google it and look at the town where your forevader came from. He work as a wagon maker for the first ten years of his life before he became a south african burger. He got married to Susanna Cordier on the 27-05-1781. She was born on the 23-03-1761 a daughter of Johannes Cordier and Anna Maria Voortman. Tosee the whole familie of which most is from Mosselbaai and swellendam area Google zietsman and there is all the names of people >when they were born and when they died. I am after the complete family tree too and i dont know where to find it. Hope it help a bit this and shed more light on the zietsman familie.

Kind regards
Konrad Karl-Heinz Zietzmann..

I'm trying to track down info on my Grandmoter Frieda Noawtsik (zki, sky ...) (B. 1902 in Germany but perhaps an Ex part of Poland)

Your posting has a geo tie-in as my Grandfather Charles Hutchings was born in Maclean county Il. in 1890 It's probably coincidental.

Anyway, all I have on her is she imagrated with her sister Irma in 1923 from the town Simmons Hoehe in germany and her father was Rudolf.

I have plenty on him. Frieda is tougher though.

Do you know anything about the family name and what it suggests? Although Freida lists German on her immigration records, her name suggests polish and in another record, the town is now actaully part of Poland. I assums shifting borders changed nationality.

Thanks,

Ray
