I'm looking for the names Senser and Streit.
I know that Mark Senser came to the US around
1848. Also, I was told that there was a mountain
called "Streit Mountain" does anyone know if that
is ture?
Thanks,

Senser - Sawtelle

I was at one time married to a Senser. I have a daughter (born in 1986)who I am researching for as Senser is one of her lines.
The earliest person in this line is a Sawtelle. Albert Sawtelle and Susanna Walk and 5 children. Albert and Susanna died (Typhoid?) and the youngest 2 children were adopted out. One was Frank Sawtelle adopted by the Ward family. The other was Herbert Sawtelle adopted by Mr. and Mrs. William Senser. Herbert Sawtelle Senser was born in 1869 and died in 1955. He married Cora B. Goss and had 12 children. Birthdates range from 1894 to 1916. One child was Lisle Herbert Senser born in 1896, died 1971. I have the other 11 children and info coming forward in time. sharon@sonnet.com

Surnames: Sawtelle
My maternal grandfather, George W. Sawtelle, was born in Cresson, PA in 1864 son of Alfred Sawtelle and Melissa Walk. This is from his obit. I have been told of adoptions of children due to the untimely death of their parents. The similarities of our stories are striking and I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hi Kay, Yes there are alot of similarities. I have that one of the 5 children of Albert and Susanna was a George M. Sawtelle born July 4, 1864. Is this the birthdate of your George?
I have Albert's full name as Samuel Albert Sawtelle born abt. 1837 in Maine and died in Pa. in 1874. Susanna's parents were Elias and Isabella Walk. Their children were John (b. 1861), George (b.1864), Claude (b.1866), Herbert (b.1869) and Frank (b.1872). The 3 older boys kept the Sawtelle name. Herbert went by the adopted name Senser and Frank by the adopted name of Ward.
The information I have was compiled and a copy kindly sent to me by Ruth Moyneir who is from the line of Herbert Sawtelle Senser.
Albert and Susanna did die of typhoid around 1874. The youngest boys were adopted and George and John went to live with their maternal grandparents (1880 census). They lived in Philipsburg, Pa. It is unknown where Claude was living. My information has that in 1920 George was a foreman in the coalmines. He married Grace and had 3 children. Charles (b. 1890), Frederick (b.1896) and Edith (b. 1903).
Albert and Susanna were of English ancestry.
There is a chance that Alfred and Melissa may be an aunt and uncle. Or are perhaps actually Albert and Susanna since the names are similar.

Yes, George Washington (not M) was born July 4, 1864. His brother, Claude, became a minister and moved to Portland,OR. I remember him. George married Grace Bloom and lived in Curwensville, PA. Son Fred died as a young man, Charles was president of Weirton Steel in WVA, Edith was my mother. Thank you for the information, I believe it all fits!

I'm looking for information on my great grandfather. His name was Adolphe Frank Streit. He was born around 1900. I don't know either of his parent's names. As far as I know, his first wife was Mary? and they had a son named William. His second wife was Maria Neiman and they had a daughter Eleanor (my grandmother). His 3rd wife was named Mary. He died in the early 1960's in CT. If you have any information I'd love to hear from you. arleygirl@yahoo.com
